Lots of coverage or Palmeiro these days as he approaches 500HRs and how he is a lock for the HOF. While I completely agree, I find it interesting that McGriff isn't getting any press. If you look at their career numbers, they are awfully close.

R. Palmeiro -- 497 HRs, 1591 RBIs, .293 BA
F. McGriff -- 480 HRs, 1514 RBIs, .286 BA

I've always been a McGriff fan and hope he gets his 500HRs this year -- IMHO, a well deserving candidate for the HOF.

I agree that with 500 HR's on his resume, McGriff should be strongly considered for the HOF. His problem has been that he has been consistent for so long without those monster 50 HR, 150 RBI seasons. People aren't impressed with 30 HR, 100 RBI seasons anymore. Even if you do it for 18 years.

I think you are correct about McGriff, though I place Palmeiro ahead of him. Plameiro will end with 560 + Hr and 1,800 rbi and 3000 hits and a .290+ BA.

Its a shame that you cant give away their cards for the most part. Palmiero is slightly better In my opinion.

You're right aboit giving cards away. I don't follow the crime dog, but I follow the SGC sales of Raffy. There is a persistent attempt by sellers to move his cards and the Topps Tifanny issue has action and then the Donruss issue. I think there is some future potential for Raffy for his SGC graded issues......

In my opinion the problem that McGriff has is that his best years were, in large part, before the perceived rabbit-ball era. He was a dominating hitter when HR rates, total RBIs, BAs and ERAs were lower and his production did not escalate dramatically when the league averages escalated. In this sense, Palmeiro is helped since his best years have come in the inflated offense years and the years with smaller ballparks. Perhaps this suggests that McGriff is in a steeper decline than is initially evident in his stats. As far as I am concerned, McGriff had the higher peak value and was among the elite for a longer period of time than Palmeiro while Palmeiro has done it all more recently and with slightly larger individual seasons. I don't know that I would favor either for the HOF, but would have no grudge against them if they made it. I think Curt Flood, Ron Santo and Keith Hernandez are deserving of the HOF but will likely never get in.

Sales of his cards need a little Viagra, but since hes a great ballplayer and a good guy its only a matter of time before he gets his recognition. If he would do something out of the ordinary like break the home run record for a season or hit .400, then his cards would really start to hop like Bonds did.
