I absolutely agree.

I also think that, roaming in our little hobby circles, it's easy to forget what an enormous amount of brand equity that Beckett has generated over the years.

Beckett has been the bible to collecting for all new hobbyists for nearly 25 years. Most collectors start when their skulls are still soft and perceptions are easily molded. It can take several years before one can gather enough information to form a new and more informed opinion. That is brand power.

My experience with the few BVG cards I have tried to cross is they come back "evidence of trimming". I will never buy another BVG graded vintage card.

Thanks for the tip. I have been tempted a few times, but have avoided BVG cards so far. I have had pretty good success with PSA and GAI graded cards crossing over.

There was a collector or holder of 1959 Topps football packs
that chose BVG as their grader of choice to grade the packs and
a lot of the cards busted from the cellos. While I agree with the
consensus here sometimes people do not know the players from the
grading end. Then the use Beckett due to their name. I bought
one of the 59's - Sam Huff. I guess I'll cross it since you guys
got me nervous now....heehee...but if you look on ebay you will
see seller becketmedia selling some of the graded cellos. The
packs have some wear on them but still not bad.

I have had very good success crossing BVG cards, but I do believe that they've graded cards cut from sheets (not a big deal to me).

In fact, in my last submission to SGC, I had the following results (2nd number is the SGC grade):

56 1969 Topps 573 JIM PALMER BVG 7 86
57 1974 Topps 201 BATTING LEADERS BVG 7.5 88
58 1975 Topps 26 GARY LARSEN BVG 9 96
59 1975 Topps 600 ROD CAREW BVG 8 88
60 1963 Topps 107 JIM MARSHALL BVG 6 60
61 1970 Topps 213 JIM MARSHALL BVG 8.5 96
62 1975 Topps 208 TARKENTON/STABLER BVG 8.5 92
63 1976 Topps 201 PASSING LEADERS BVG 8.5 96

I plan to cross about 35 BVG cards to SGC in the next month. I'll keep y'all posted on the results.

Yes, BVG is one brand that I won't be using.
