I am inclined to say Alex Popov since TV cameras showed that he had the ball in his glove for an instant before being besieged. Still, there is some question about whether he dropped the ball before or after he was accosted.

Here is a good article discussing the court decision. There is also an interesting comment by Lou Constanzo, vice president of sales for sports memorabilia auctioneers Real Legends. D'oh!

I mean $3,000,000 for that ball...I'd rather have the T206 Wagner and alot of cash leftover.

I agree with you! I would imagine that for $3 Million you could purchase full game-used field ensembles (full uniforms, bats, gloves, hats, spikes, socks, signed baseballs, etc.) of Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle and still have enough left over for building custom showcases to display them plus a beautiful home to put them in!!!!!

So, he has to hire Bloodsucker #2 to defend himself against Bloodsucker #1 ...

He'd probably be in less trouble if he'd just taken a gun and shot someone. There is no future in PO-ing a lawyer.
