Can the Tigers possibly play any worse baseball than they have so far this year? The best baseball ticket in town is for the turn-of-the-century league games played on the green at Henry Ford Museum.
Will the Tigers uniform run the same course as Jordache jeans and a Members Only jacket - an outfit most people won't be caught dead in. After a decade of stinking up the place, how does Detroit begin rebuilding even with marginal, experienced talent?
At the beginning of the year, the word out to the public was the farm system had some solid talent at a few levels - the new double-play duo has already been dismantled, the buzz around Bonderman is gone. All we got left is Munson's run for ROY.
Yesterday's Detroit News published an article that Tiger Stadium may soon give way to the nation's 5,768th Wal-Mart store. I think the only thing smiling about that news is Wal-Mart's price-slashing yellow dot.
Next week's Trivia question, can anyone tell me what team holds the record for the most 20 game losing pitchers in a single year? I have a feeling Detroit is on their way to rewriting that piece of baseball history this summer.

I believe I know the answer to your question. Since 1900, there have been four 20 game losers on 1 team on 2 separate occassions:
1905: Boston Beaneaters(N): Chick Fraser, Kaiser Wilhelm, Vic Willis & Irv Young
1906: Boston Beaneaters(N): Gus Dorner, Vive Lindaman, "Big Jeff" Pfeffer & Irv Young.
There have been a few other occassions where its been done by 3 pitchers on 1 team.
So..........don't worry about breaking the record. GO TIGERS!

My guess is the 1973 Chicago White Sox with Wilbur Wood (24-20) and Stan Bahnsen (18-21) and the 1962 New York Mets with Al Jackson (8-20) and Roger Craig (10-24). There can't possibly be 3 20 game losers on one club in one season, can there?
Now that's on the major league level. In the minors, the 1922 Newark Bears had four starters, who appeared in 144 of the scheduled 166 games. Dean Barnhardt (10-22), Luther Barnes (10-23), Howard Baldwin (12-21) and Rudy Kneisch (6-20). Now, that's a bunch of losers!

According to a report seen last night on ESPN SportsCenter, the 2003 Tigers are on a pace to have a worse record than the 1962 Mets ... rightly or wrongly, the 1962 Mets are generally accepted as the "worst team ever".

Well, I am happy to say that I have a nm/mt '63 Mets team card documenting the "worst team in history". Do you think its value will drop if the Tigers out bad them this year?

Yeah, Scott ... you might need to unload that card now before the 2003 Tigers performance causes its (the card's) value to tank ... 
On second thought, the '63 Mets team had some big name players who, while they were well beyond their prime years, are recognizable to any/all baseball fans. Forty years from now, NO ONE will be able to name any member of the 2003 Tigers without doing a google search (or whatever info lookup tools we have 40 years from now).

On the Baseball page of the Sports section, it seems like more time is spent following the exploits of former Tigers than who's currently on the roster.
DE, your absolutely right in saying that the Tigers have a rag-tag group of anonymous players.
The club keeps on reassuring the fans (for the record, I still root for them to win each night) that we are 8 years into the 5 year turnaround plan and we should be seeing more wins any day now.
Game 3 versus Boston - should be interesting.

Upon entering the years of my youth when I could recall about sports (~1977) the Minnesota Twins had one decent year and then it was down hill until 1987 with a marginal success in 1985. Then the glory years of 1987 to 1989 then again the worst team in 1990 then 1991 WS champs. Then 93 to 2000 it was completely a joke.
My point is that they will bounce back with good management/operations. It needs to be done within and it is going to take a good 3 years before you see any promise based upon good picks and developing your talent.
I think it is good that they dumped their stars, knowing that they weren't going to make the necessary difference.
However, it has to be hard for you and Brewers to have new stadiums and such a poor team at the same time.
