I was at Sportsfest for all three days. The first day (friday) was slow with a relatively small crowd. However, the last two days picked up in attendance and action at dealer tables. Seemed like a fair amount of people checking out cards. I was able to pick up some nice NM-MT 1971 raw cards that SGC graded as 88s. I also was able to watch GAI grade cards, as unlike PSA and SGC, the GAI graders were not behind a curtain and you could watch them grade. What I saw was that most cards were not examined under magnification or sophisticated lights, and are graded rather quickly.
I own one GAI graded card; 1974 Rod Carew 8. It looks more like a 7 or 7.5 when I compare it to what I have in SGC, SCD and BVG holders. I've never seen cards graded at shows (seems so expensive), but it is an interesting topic of whether or not you want the public to see your grading methods and tools. hmmm....I see pros and cons for both.
