This thread will be a running list of sets added to the SGC Registry. I will start with sets that have been added within the past two weeks and make additions when ready.

Hi Brian~
It sounds like SGC and the collectors here have reached a nice milestone for the Registry! I can't tell you enough what a pleasure it is using and collecting on. I enjoy the Registry more than most anything else online regarding the Hobby. It is always exciting to go to the Registry and pull one's set up and be able to view it in the state of the art capacity the Registry offers. As far as I'm concerned, SGC hit a grand slam when they instituted this feature. I can't say enough great things about it!

Brian when you guys get a chance can you add the rest of the cards to the 81 Football registry? I believe it only shows to number 300. Im putting together several raw cards as they come in or are found that are well centered and will soon begin submitting them.

Man your non sport special must be paying off, look at all those sets being added and I dont recognize any of them, haha. Good stuff.
 We're seeing tremendous growth in non-sports which is fantastic. As such, we have a lot of work ahead of us to bring the non-sports segment up to speed with the sports area, and the registry is one key to accomplishing this.

There are some very affordable pre-war non-sport issues, as well as some sport issues that are not terribly expensive.
Depending on what you're looking for, I think you could get some good input on the board about sets to consider.

I was wondering about the 1985 Topps Baseball set. It states that there are 833 cards in the set. I knew there were some error cards in this set but I didn't think there were 41 of them. Can someone look into this and correct/clarify this. Thanks.

It looks like numbers 616-657 were added to the set twice by mistake. I'll delete them which will leave the set complete at the 792 cards it should be.

Is there any chance of seeing some sort of pre-war HOF collection put together from some of the more readily available sets like T206, Goudey, Play Ball, etc.?
I really like the post-war HOF rookie card collection, and would love to see something that deals with the pre-war players.

Until BigGuys post, I didn't even realize you had a HOF RC registry. I have been trying to add cards to it, however it is not letting me add any. I tried 3 different RC's (Killebrew, Bunning, Mazeroski). Please let me know if there is an issue with that particular registry.

BigGuy--I envision something where any player whose career started prior to 1948 would be listed in a separate registry set--is that what you were looking for?
Rob--We've kept the HOF sets to just players for the time being. It's possible that we will add a Master Set of Hall of Famers in the future.

Thanks again for adding the Arky Vaughan registry set. I started adding cards to it tonight and hit a snag. It wouldn't accept my 1933 Goudey card, which is strange since the card is in my 1933 Goudey registry set. Could you please see if you can add it for me? Here's the cert. number: 1271107-012.

Hi Keith,
I'll add the card for you. I should've mentioned that you will undoubtedly encounter some issues entering cards into the set because of the wide range of ways in which Arky Vaughan's name appeared on cards over his career. There is Arky, Arkie, "Arky", Vaughn, Vaughan, etc. So, only cards that say "Arky Vaughan" on them will be accepted. The others will have to be input by us.

Yes, Brian. You have a post-war HOF RC and post-war HOF second year registry set, but nothing covering the pre-war players.
In a perfect world it would draw from the more readily available sets so you could formulate some sort of 'power rating,' but that seems as if it wouldbe quite difficult and time consuming.

I haven't been able to get the Post War HOF Rooke card set fixed, so in the meantime, if you want to register anything, please send me the certs. I'm hopeful that we'll be able to reveal the next HOF registry soon.

Just a thought. Now i dont know the legalities involved, if there are any or not, but how about breaking the barrier and making the ability for an all encompassing registry of all three grading companies? If this is totally taboo, then tell me to shut up lol

Shut up. Just kidding. I think GAI's new registry is touting that ability, but I have yet to see it in action.
While it would be a neat idea from a collector's standpoint, business-wise, it's kind of like free advertising for your competitors. There's more incentive for SGC not to do this because it makes us want to use their service to get our cards in their holder and assigend a correct grade.
Although you could make a case that it could ultimately help SGC in the long run by bringing in new collectors with cards from other companies, who just want to have a registry set, and after spending some time around here, decide to make a switch and start crossing over.

You make some very good points about the business end to things. You are absolutely right that having a "universal" registry set would be most beneficial to collectors, but definitely would not promote and keep pure the whole idea about brand registries that now exist. The whole idea for Registries was to promote individual TPG's and to give those who specifically collected their brand of slabs an outlet to display and share their collections. To make it "universal" would in a sense open the door for ruining their individual registries, while giving free marketing to other rival TPG's. And my friend, that is never going to happen. However, rather then having a universal registry, my idea is to have a "universal" virtual checklist where you could actually use it to keep track of your graded sets or collection. Let's say you have a graded set but includes all 3 brands of TPG slabs...being able to go to a universal checklist where you can list them (not in the same sense as register) and post a picture of your card would be the idea in mind. However, I do not see SGC or PSA or anyone else who is a major player doing this solely because it allows the others to promote their slabs. However, the concept is good, but the practicality in the eyes of the TPG'ers probably is not! Just my thoughts...

i collect slabs, 99.3% of which are bought already slabbed.
Sure id LIKE to select SGC, but they just dont show up on ebay.
So, whichever of the big three show up first in an acceptable slab, get my money

I love the fact that everyone collects differently, it's one of the things that makes this hobby so great.
I try to buy cards pre-slabbed as well. Most of the time I will buy SGC, other times when I know that it would be tough to wait for that particular card in an SGC slab I might go for PSA or BVG. When I do, I try to go by the ole saying "Buy the card not the holder", and then I try and cross over (hopefully get a bump) into an SGC holder.
Sometimes I buy raw, but only when it is from a credible seller and when I am close to certain there are no alterations. Of course I have been burned before (who hasn't) but on very small levels....

I'm not entirely sure I understand the appeal of such a thing. Most set registry collectors who I've encountered are incredibly obsessive-compulsive and do not 'mix and match' when it comes to the slabs.
Personally, I love SGC's 'gallery view'. It really puts the others to shame. I'm honestly surprised how 'low tech' the PSA registry is. The only thing I like about the PSA registry is their "Top 250 Sportscards" collection, which makes sense considering it comes from a Joe Orlando book. I'm in a tough spot registry wise, because I'm collecting those, but in SGC slabs, which means I can only add them to a "The Way You Collect" registry set, which cannot be weighted or compete with others. Oy.

i agree with Earl,its probably never going to happen,but i would love it if it did.Im in quite a quandry{i guess thats the right word]on my 53 topps set.Ive got about 165 psa graded cards 12 sgc & the rest slabbed by other grading companies.I would like to have them on some registry so im leaning on sending the rest to PSA because so many of them already r psa.I dont really like dealing with PSA so 1 day i decide to send them the next day i decide not to.I think it would benefit SGC if they allowed PSA cards to be registered because in this case i would send the other about 100 to get them graded by SGC then i could have them on 1 registry.Cmon Earl uve got alot of pull with Brian.

I just thought of a way SGC could benefit from this.For every PSA card registered their has to be 1 of SGC.In other words at least 1/2 of any set has to be from SGC in order to be on the SGC registry.I dont c any benefit of adding any other grading company but PSA.This might be the ramblings of a guy who hasnt slept for 24 hrs,if it is just disregard.

Another problem I forsee with an all encompassing registry is complaints from collectors based on their company loyalties/baises.
I can see a big issue with "Well I would have the #1 registry set, but John Doe has a bunch of trimmed GAI cards and a bunch of 80/20 centered PSA 10's he bought from 4SC, so they are probably trimmed too, and don't even get me started on the BCCG 10's... I was robbed!!!!!"

Any post-1948 graded card--regardless of grading company--valued at under $250 can be submitted by the end of this month for $3.50 as long as you have 10+.

I agree! The crossover special is the BEST I have ever seen! I mean, where can you get your cards re-graded by the best TPG for $3.50 each? I don't know how you can stay in business at these prices! I am working on my submission now! Thanks for the reminder!

So far, I only have Mattingly, Strawberry, and Ozzie Smith, but just those few cards have sparked my interest in putting together the set. The '84 Donruss design is really great and the so is the photography. It's probably my favorite set from the '80s.

For the Arky Vaughan player set registry that you set up for me, I notice that it doesn't include his 1941 Doubleplay card (#33/34 with Handley). I just had one graded by SGC - could you please add that card to the set definition so that I can add the card?
Also, any update on addding '84 Donruss to the Registry?

Hi Brian,
I noticed that a portion of the 1984 Donruss set is up on the Registry - thanks for getting that together! It's a big set, so I know it's probably a heavy lift.
Even though only the first 300 cards are up, I went ahead and created a set and entered in some cert. numbers. Is this okay, or will my set get deleted when the other 360 cards are added?

Your set will not be deleted, so it's fine that you registered one. As you can imagine, sitting down to enter 660 cards in one shot requires a lot of time. The first 300 are done and the balance will be done soon.

I just noticed on the Thurman Munson basic set and am wondering why it doesnt include the 72 In Action 442 card. I believe that it should be included as it is a regular card.
Would someone like to shed some light on this for me? It seems like there is a little discrepancy on inserts in a players set.

The Johnny Bench set has the same issue. I believe that I read a post some where on the board indicating that additional cards could be added if a request was sent to someone at SGC. Another possibility is that they will add a master set of the same player which is more inclusive, requiring or adding the sub set cards, such as In Action, All Star, etc.

If that is the case then look at the mike Schmidt registry set. It includes a lot o base inserts like super veteran all star the fleer in action etc.
Just seems to be some inconstancies.
Another example is the bob Gibson set. It too has league leaders and base cards. Yet the rich ashburn set doesn't have the dual card with him and Willie mays

With respect to player sets, the policy for sets created recently has been to just include the main card of the player from the Topps set and leave In Action, leader cards, and multi-player cards for the master sets.

Mike Schmidt Master Set will be worked on--there are over 600 cards for Schmidt at this time. Maybe we can figure out an abridged definition so that we can partially list it on the registry for the time being.

Just a note of thanks for adding my son Jeff Obermeyer's T212 OBAK 175 subjects complete set to the SGC Registry. Jeff worked on completing this set for many years and I took it upon myself to have it SGC graded when Jeff decided that he wanted me to proceed with selling it. Now I'm getting hooked on it
Jeff was mentored on learning much about this card issue, and was assisted greatly in building the set, by Mark Macrae who deserves a tip of this oldtimer's cap from me. Jeff published a definitive article on this card issue in VCBC #26

SGC has 2 complete sets in the Registry, and PSA has none.... now that's an obscure card issue
There are 35 different "Slogans" possible in the center of the card backs, but for any specific player only a few Slogans may be possible and some slogans may be rarer than others. The research done on this so far is limited by the low quantity of cards made available for sampling.
Re the Registry some of the players in this set are "Power Rated" as 2.00 indicating relative scarcity; relative popularity of the player; and/or "star power" I assume. I'd love to see insights from the appropriate SGC pro regarding why those specific cards received the higher Power Ratings.
