There maybe many answer(s) to this question... since we sometime collect home town favorites, etc...

Hi Guys,

Hall of Famers will always be the most popular. For baseball, we get a lot of Ruths, Cobbs, Mantles, ARods, and Jeters. For basketball, Jordan is the far away leader. For hockey, Gretzky and Orr are always popular. For football, there's a good mix like there is with baseball between Namath, Montana, Brady, Manning, and others.

I am confused at the question. Are you asking what "the" most popular player is or "our" personal most popular player. If the question was the first I would guess Mantle, and the latter would Aaron.

FYS, that is quite a list of players you collect. I am impressed by the amount of Lakers, I thought you were in Piston country.

If it werent for the huge upset in super bowl III, I doubt that Namath would have made the hall of fame. Considering he threw about 50 more interceptions than touchdowns in his career.

Those are not my personal choices, those are the acutal rankings for the general hobby based on the number of registered PSA player sets. The data is from about 1 year ago and not an exact science, but probably pretty damn accurate.

My guys:

1. Detroit Tigers i.e. Rookie Cards from the 1984 Team (Lance Parrish, Alan Trammel, Lou Whitaker, Jack Morris etc).
2. Former Michigan State Spartan Baseketball Players: Magic Johnson, Johnny Green, Steve Smith, Jason Richardson, Zack Randolph etc.
3. Former Michigan State Spartan Football Players: Earl Morral, Bubba Smith, Gene Washington, Herb Adderly, Brad Van Pelt etc.
4. Former Michigan State Spartan Baseball Players: Steve Garvey, Kirk Gibson, Robin Roberts etc.
5. Former Michigan Tech Husky Hockey Players: Tony Esposito, Lou Angotti, Tim Watters etc.

My favorite player to collect is Steve Young. Although, to be honest I am not that big of a Young fan as one might think....I think the 90s NFL rocked in general.

Over the years it seems Young has went up in value a little, but not much. Regardless, it seems the card companies really like him and place him in almost every possible set which keeps new Young cards in play.

I think the most popular player would be Mantle hands down. Ruth cards are not as common and much more expensive so it limited people. You can pull a mantly out of a 1952 topps pack or a 2009 pack which makes lots of cards available. Also lots of demand.

I have been confused since the start of this thread. Is it a question as to what you personally like to collect or a trivia type question of who is the most collected player?

I also agree that Mantle would have to be #1
