Does anyone know whether the SGC sets from Randy Stuckemeyer will be auctioned off by his heirs? I actually worked with Randy on the 1961-62 Fleer basketball set, trading and selling cards. I haven't heard anything recently about plans to sell that set or his many other highly graded SGC registry sets.

A few months ago, I sent an email to the address on file. His son(?) responded almost immediately that they planned to liquidate his sets using an unnamed auction house. It is such a massive collection, I can only imagine how daunting the task might be.

As mentioned, the collection is expansive and liquidating it would take years. Anyone interested in specific pieces of the collection can feel free to PM me details, and I can try to be a liasion between you and the family. There are certain items that will not be sold, I believe, but I can field inquiries and see if I can help.

Last July I contacted the email address on the registry set and heard from a person named Karson. I inquired about the 1961-62 Fleer basketball set (an SGC registry set I collect) and he responded that the set was to be eventually auctioned by Heritage Auctions but he would entertain offers for specific cards. I sent in some offers and he responded that he would pass. There was no counter-offers. I feel the offers were fair because I have since bought 2 of the cards on ebay for less than my offer. Anyway, it would be some much easier if he could supply a price list for the cards in the set rather than my guessing on an offer that may be acceptable. I realize there are a ton of sets for the family to go through but any help you could be regarding this set would be appreciated. I did sell Randy 4 cards he has in the set, mainly SGC 96s when I was only collecting 88s and 92s. I would now also be interested in 96s. Thanks for your help.

I dealt with this Karson in person.After he removed all the low population cards, which was fine by me, im not much on paying way above SMR anyway.The SMR on the rest was 6100.00 with Irvin being the only star.He asked me 5 grand & i offered 4200.00 cash.This pissed him off & he said he wouldnt sell anything then.This is who they have in charge of selling these sets ? It was like an 8 yr old boy taking his bat & ball home,& stopping the game,because he got mad.

I've dealt with Karson several times and found him to be courteous and accommodating. While I have no knowledge of the specific event outlined above, it is important to stress that it is not a firesale when it comes to breaking up the collection. Anyone is welcome to make offers of whatever amount they like, but the estate (led by Karson) is acting in the best interest of the collection and the heirs. They are getting competitive offers for cards on a weekly basis and consign a number of cards to major auctions with great results. They are not in a hurry to sell, so I can see why they rejected a 60% of SMR offer.

Isn't there a better indicator of SGC prices than SMR. Perhaps VCP?

I always use VCP for an idea. Only bad thing is there is not a lot of data on SGC slabs as they don't sell as often as PSA. I always try and buy SGC cards for under PSA VCP prices, then I get a BETTER card for LESS money.
