Wow...proof that I learn something new everyday. I recently bought a card from FYS and it prompted me to look up some other of Steve Largent's cards. I wondered why all of his early cards show him with a solid silver helmet and no Seahawk? Did Topps only get photos of him in practice or something? I started looking up some other cards from that time period. Come to find out, from 76-82 Topps didn't have the rights to show logos on any of their cards! That's why so many of the players are shown with helmets off! The others that are wearing helmets the logos were actually airbrushed out! Not new info to most of you hardcore collectors, but something I never knew! \:\)

The NFL has to get their licensing fee. Even back then. How else can they pay Roger Goodell $20 million per year to pontificate over the league?

I know for sure they showed logo's in the 1982 Topps set. Otherwise, the cards without team logo's are really not very appealing.

I guess they got the rights to put the logo on starting with the 82 set.

1969 Topps was the last set to feature logos before the 1982 set.

I'm guessing there was a contract dispute between the league and Topps, yes?
