I think because he was well liked by many fans of baseball(and not just the pirates fans) and the fact that he died while he was still playing has a lot to do with the demand and prices of his cards.

I think not only that he died but being a good samaritan was the reason he was killed.

I've not heard that. Is that a story that had been around? I know FDR was with his mistress when he died, not that it has anything to do with Clemente.

Yeah, I've seen en both play too and Koufax is easily the most awesome pitcher I've ever seen. Gibson, in his prime was right up there, and if I had one game to win, I might go with Gibby, but that would one tough choice. They both were excellent in post-season as well as regular season.
Back to Clemente, I really don't have an explanation. Maybe because he died tragically and Sandy is still living...just a shot in the dark.

Who really knows why his card is so high. Thank God I dont collect 55 Topps. It would really kill me to pony up any inflated price for his rookie card. P.S. Gibson was a monster but Koufax anytime for me.
