I was bidding on this card in the Sterling Auction that ended last night and was a bit surprised at the final amount. I checked Ebay to see if I was way off and realized that 3 SGC 96s sold for between $23-$27 over the last couple of months!?!? Any idea what may have been the reason this went for double?

Farve or Favre? LOL

No I bet both just wanted the card and bid it up, plus some folks just like Brian and will bid on stuff they dont normally do so prices can be high on some cards. I know I won some Hockey from him a while back and had no idea what I was paying or they were worth but I just liked the cards.

If it was your card up for sale and you were dishonest, wouldn't you shill? I'd say it's a STRONG possibilty. (And no, it wasn't my card.)

Not sure bbo because you take a big chance that you win the card esp once it goes above the vcp ave and then Brian would know you are shilling his auction which makes him look bad.

I just dont see it, not like shilling an ebay auction where no one knows you and easy to have a second account.

Another possibility is a potential crack/re-sub? It was a nice example, but I personally don't see it in a Gem holder, but maybe someone else did???

Darn nice Farve! I think someone wanted it bad and it looks great in the SGC holder

I imagine consignors can bid on their own items. It happens in auction houses all the time. The owner may have bid it up himself.
