Are the cards enveloped in some clear plastic "sleeve" like they use in the becket holders?

not sure what beckett uses, but YES they are in a plastic sleeve, about half of the SGC graded R312 I have are sleeved the other half are not, i guess it is something that they did not always do

..interesting - in your opinion are the cards thin enough to possibly slip under the gasket if they weren't encased in the plastic?

Just curious - they are nice-looking!

they are very thin.the 7 or 8 that dont have the plastic don't seem to have chance of sliding under.

Love those R312s! That's an underrated set, in my opinion. I only have one SGC-slabbed R312 and it is in a plastic sleeve. As noted by Hankcaddy, the paper stock on the R312s is very thin, so I think the plastic sleeve is necessary to keep the card in place.

Gotcha - that's a great catch by SGC!

I really like those R312's too hank!

The R312 I have in my type set is in a sleeve thingy too. That issue is literally paper thin & the sleeve definitely helps to protect it from contacting the gasket in the event of it shifting within the slab.
