Found this on the website May 1. "1950's-60's Special: Any card, any sport: $6/card (10 day turnaround)."

After a 5+ month hiatus, I succumbed to the siren song of the current special. Why did I even bother?
1. Packaged up a 30-card invoice and mailed on Wed. May 2.
2. Credit card charged on Fri. May 4, so I know package was received in NJ. (Was this day one?)
3. Logged in as received on Mon. May 7. (Was this day one?)
4. Tuesday May 15, pop report changed, signaling cards have been graded. (Was this day 7 or 8?)
5. Today, May 18, either day 10 or day 11 and still no official grade posting and no ship date.

Why offer a special if you can't meet the deadline? If I wanted lousy customer service, I could have sent them to the other guys.

Invariably, when the grades do finally post, there will be a couple of changes to the downside, based on my last couple of invoices nearly six months ago. I'll likely be back to vent again at that time.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

The only thing I am fairly certain of is that May 4th should be day 1. In every submission I ever made, the day the package was received was Day 1 of the process.

Sorry this sub isn't going as smooth as it usually does.

Although if it ships Monday technically it is day 12 which I know isn't within 10 days, but 2 extra days really isn't that bad is it?

Every day should be a 10% discount. Or at least a free grading for each day they miss. One day late, two days late, fifty days late. It's still a FAIL if it goes beyond 10.

Well, unless someone messages with with any of the cards on my BST thread before Monday morning, I will be sending a small group of cards for that same special. I will let you know how long mine
takes!

Finally posted and shipped today, the 12th day from the day they dinged my credit card. As I predicted, one card bumped a half grade lower than the original grade from the pop report change on Tuesday. It never fails that I get at least one downgrade "upon review."

The highest grade in the lot was from a damaged and warped card of Fred Haney. I'm pretty sure I submitted that card previously and got a 60. Now it's an 88. Un-youknowwhat-believable. I'll go back into sub-hibernation for several more months. May sub an invoice by Christmas. Or not.

The 52's were within a grade of what I thought, give or take a couple.

1952 Topps 11 PHIL RIZZUTO Red Back 50 (gift?)
1952 Topps 24 LUKE EASTER Red Back 50 (gift?)
1952 Topps 26 MONTE IRVIN Black Back 50 (gift?)
1952 Topps 37 DUKE SNIDER Red Back 40 (gift?)
1952 Topps 48 JOE PAGE Black Back 50 (ah, hell, maybe I can't grade the mid-grade stuff!)
1952 Topps 49 JOHNNY SAIN Black Back 60
1952 Topps 59 ROBIN ROBERTS Red Back 40
1952 Topps 65 ENOS SLAUGHTER Black Back 60 (I thought 40)
1952 Topps 66 "PREACHER" ROE Black Back 50
1952 Topps 88 BOB FELLER 50
1952 Topps 91 AL SCHOENDIENST 60 (closer to 7 than a 5...jeesh)
1952 Topps 122 JACK JENSEN 50
1952 Topps 129 JOHNNY MIZE 50
1952 Topps 195 ORESTES MINOSO ROOKIE 60
1952 Topps 250 CARL ERSKINE 50 (I thought 60)
1952 Topps 253 JOHNNY BERARDINO 50
1952 Topps 277 EARLY WYNN 60 (more like an 80 or at least a 70)
1952 Topps 280 CLOYD BOYER 60
1952 Topps 282 BIRDIE TEBBETTS 50 (I thought 60)
1952 Topps 289 TOMMY HOLMES 60

1959 Topps 88 HERB SCORE 84
1959 Topps 321 BOB GIALLOMBARDO 86 (a joke, right?)
1959 Topps 336 BILLY LOES 84 (another unfunny joke)
1959 Topps 491 DON BLASINGAME 84
1959 Topps 494 DON PAVLETICH 80 (highway robbery)
1959 Topps 511 GEORGE SUSCE High# 84
1959 Topps 537 RODOLFO ARIAS High# 84 (I figured 88, first pop.report update was 86)
1959 Topps 551 FRED HANEY All-Star High# 88

I'll post some scans after the PO delivers them. You will be amazed at how sharp some of the 59's are.

Sorry this happened to you. I have never had a sub go longer then advertised turnaround with SGC. Almost every time it has popped 2-3 days earlier.

Thanks SGC

I have had 2 subs go past, one they called me and had an issue with their supply of tallboy slabs and that they would need another three weeks. I was fine with that and they sent them free back to me by fedex when they were ready. The other was 4 days late and was pretty recent I didnt really hear what was up but I deal with PSA a lot and im pretty laid back on a sub being a bit slow.

I have a PSA sub right now at business day 49, gurrr and about half my subs are slow over there. The funny thing is I feel like they either come back right away (some with less than a 10 day turn around) then the other 50% are all late. Also dont even get me going on how long for PSA to enter a sub, I send all of them registered so I know when they got them and while SGC is usually about 1-3 days, PSA has been around 3-10 days. I sent in 5 PSA subs 3 months ago (for every different sized slabs you need a separate sub, same goes for raw vs crossover, it means a ton of extra postage too) it took 10 days to enter the sub. What really pissed me off was I had one expensive card that had to have its own sub but had a 3 day turnaround. So that ended up being a 12 day wait for a 3 day sub plus the $20 postage just for that card, ouch.

I am glad you posted about it thou, I dont like to see them falling behind. I went about 3 years without a late SGC sub so they need to get back on the ball.

I just mailed off my May Special cards. The girl at the post office said it should arrive in Parsippany Saturday. I'm guessing SGC is not open Monday, so I kind of expect it will be logged Tuesday or Wednesday. We'll see what happens!

I dropped off a sub (10 day TAT) at SGC during my visit to the White Plains show on Friday, May 11th. SGC entered by sub on May 13th (I suspect at the shows, since 5/13 is a Sunday) and I should have it posted in the SGC system as shipped today. I have my finger's crossed...

Five-day Pony Express delivery arrived today. Individual card scans can be found in my Registry Set, Mt. Everest.

Three nice landscape shots.
Photobucket

Some HOF'ers the graders got right, some they didn't.
Photobucket

Some of these are particularly disappointing grades.
Photobucket

Got a gift on a couple, not on others.
Photobucket

These are pretty much what I expected.
Photobucket

Larger scans of the individual cards are on the Registry, if you can climb the mountain.

bbo,

That is the nicest three Roberts I have ever seen.
What is the problem that we can not see? Is there
paper loss on the bottom center or a crease
somewhere?

Nice cards overall. The grades look ok for the
most part with some high end cards for the grade
on some.

TC, The Roberts card is 4/5 all day long, except for a notched bottom edge (presumably from a rubber band?). You can see it a little bit better if you check the blown up scan in my set. The paper on the surface was raised and bent back pretty good. The 3 grade is a case of one flaw so much worse than any other small flaws, the grader decided to override the more positive aspects of the card (centering, surface gloss, color, focus). The corners are not even 3-quality; they're closer to 4. No creases either.

These are the cards I tend to gravitate toward when I buy raw. Great eye appeal for the grade at a reasonable price. Believe me, I've got plenty of crap cards, already in holders that I wonder, who graded this trash? Cards such as Roberts goes a long way toward making up for the junk I find already graded.

BTW, that Roberts card came from the large lot I bought from cammb last December, right here on the boards. As did Easter, Snider & Berardino. I think I'll go look at his upgrade Roberts right now. It must be nice for him to move this one.

Mike, inretrospect I like your Roberts better. No comparison as far as centering. I just went one grade higher. Heres mine.

I think you were robbed.

I see the notch now.

Still a nice card where eye appeal makes a difference when some people buy but does not
always equate when grading.

Very nice cards bbo, those are in the condition I like collect and yes it only takes one bigger issue like the edge damage to bring down an otherwise EX+ card. Lots of bang for the buck imo, vs your normal high grade stuff.

I downgraded most of my high grade cards years ago and have been a lot happier collecting, when the price difference between a 3-5 is minimal then it really just gets down to eye appeal, and your 52's all seem to have lots of that, great cards.

Some nice cards, but I think you owe the board an apology regarding the '58 cards re: Danny and Blackie--that was bush-league. You are entitled to your opinion but I think your comments were unfounded.

The ENTIRE board? Wow! Does that include nam812 who got so bent out of shape when I outed Felicia, who is now in prison? Does that include the wood burning carving guy who is still waiting for his apology? How about joey and lsutigers1973? Them, too?

I'll have to think about this.

OK, I've thought about it. I'll pass.

If you don't like reading my comments and questions, it's easy to ignore them. Really easy. Just click on my name/handle, then click on view profile, then click on ignore user. There, now I've made a contribution to the board that even you might think is positive.

The difference between those cases and Danny/Blackie's is that you had evidence of wrongdoing. In this case, a modest gift (not solicited) might be resold due to changing circumstances.

I would call your USPS branch manager to make them aware that it shows delivered and it has not been, more than likely they will say the driver mistakenly scanned it and it will be there in a day or two. I always like to be on the record for it the first couple times thou.

I just got back my tobacco card and for some reason its really crook-ed in the sgc case. You can see where the small card is supposed to fit in the middle of the black border. I was wondering if any of you know if theres a reason for the weird positioning. The card is definately tight in the case and is not moving around. I emailed sgc twice but with no response.

After thinking about it, my bro told me that if I leave it lopsided and crook-ed, it gives it character. Kinda like a messed up printed baseball card that makes it worth more. hehe.

Post a scan chad, not sure I understand what is wrong, is the card under the insert? In any case I have sent a card or two back to be fixed over the years when they are not fitting right with the insert and SGC has always sent them back all fixed up.

Good luck K-dog, call Earl and make sure he sets you up, I have no idea what my user # is but once they give you a username and password you can access your subs as well as the pop report. I do not get the emails so I need to get that set up for me too.

Good luck!!!!
