Will you and Blackie give back the free cards people on this board sent you? (I can ask the question because I don't have a dog in the hunt.)

Daniel, ignore BBO's comments. The cards were a gift and now circumstances have changed and you need to raise $ for more important things in life.... It's not like you solicited free cards, we on the board came up with the idea. Glad you were able to enjoy them this year but now you have to sell the set...hopefully down the road you can rebuild the set if you want to...

Here is the thread, post #1

Blackie may have to sell his set

Strange that both you guys work together, live close by, collect the same set, post frequently, readily accepted free cards, and now have money issues that may require you to sell your sets.

Just a question and an observation. Why so defensive?

Yours truly,

Felicia (I just love cards)

Ok I wasn't go to say much but now the box is open i guess. Yes I am building a new home right now and was considering selling at one point. I was and am now able to see "day light" upon my completion of my project. I have slowed down a bit. As far as your statement of readily accepting free cards........well im a bit upset by that. I am very thankful for all the help the members gave me and am blessed to have friends on the boards who have helped with my set. You know Dan didn't want to discuss his issues on the boards but you have a good way of brining it out Mike. He was on orders but at the time is not at this period of time and is inbetween jobs. He is helping me with rocklaying and other labor on my home. He is defensive becuase of the way you stated your point. Why even comment Mike really.....come on. Tell me how much you put in on his cards and i will be glad to pay you for your part if it bugs you that bad. Dan and I are in the same unit. I work full time and he does not. We both have similar interests and are great friends. How much more do you need man......how much more do you want to bring out. Im quite blessed to have my job and have went overbudget doing alot of the building myself on my home. Without Dan's help i would be behind on home and for that i am very grateful only being able to pay him what i can.

If you had questions concerning something then why not use the PM???? Just curious. Im not going to get into some posting match with you on these boards. IM gonig to keep working on my set and thanks for giving me more reason to stay with it. As far as Dan, he is quite upset by your reply and most likely won't be back as he removed his 58 set already as well.

Again enough of this............he just wanted to try and sell his set by asking if anyone on the boards is interested. I could end my post by some lewd yours truly but I have always been Blackie so there it is.......

I'm not sure why BBO is trying to stir the pot here...Either way, it's not really his business to bring up any of these issues az he did not pay towards the modest contribution made to Blackie and Danny's set. I also resent the "readily accept free cards" statement--that is clearly a mischaracterization

I see a can of WD-40 in the background. Do you use that on your weapons? I was always told that WD-40 is water-based and can cause rust. I use gun oil.

Man this thread got out of wack fast. First Dan do what is best for you period, I know I gave you a bunch of raw cards and they were a gift. I expect you to do what is best for you with them, sell away if needed.

I would recommend that if you are selling, make sure to get close to VCP average on them and I would send the HOFers off to Sterling to auction off to maximize your value. Dont sell off fast to the first offer and take a big hit. I think Dan will be back one day collecting, once you start its hard to stay away.

Good luck Dan and I hope you stick around the boards.

I agree completely. A gift is simply that and Dan should do what is best for him. Circumstances always change and we all have to react accordingly. I also want to second Scott's good advice about selling your set - make sure to position yourself to get maximum value, even if it takes a bit longer.

Best of luck Dan and I hope that you can return to collecting in the future.

I actually disagree with Scott, I think if the stars get sold off seperately it would be much harder to move the single commons...

No worries Pat, I just feel that the only winner when cards are sold in a lot is the buyer. Only very rare sets seem to bring more than selling them separate like E107, T209-2, etc. I remember the 1957 SGC set that was sold by a board member here in REA a year or two ago and he took a bath and it was an unreal set, he would have gotten a ton more if broken up.

That said many of Dans cards were BIN's purchases from ebay and those he will take a loss on whether grouped or single so might as well do a grouping and put them up for auction, maybe include a few minor stars but I would auction all the superstars separate.

But hey do what you feel is best as you take a risk selling either way.

All of us have learned lessons the hard way. Maybe it's his turn. I used to refer to my cards as investments. Now I know better. It's a collection, a hobby. Hobbies rarely make money.

WOW, I just read this and can't believe bbo would make a comment about the free cards. Why not send pm if your that upset on something you were not involved with? I'm sorry for Dan that he has to sell his cards but there are more important things then a hobby. It was a horrible comment and maybe stuff like this is why there is not many people on here!!

That's pretty funny, hit-guy. If that were the case, the CU board would be as barren as the back side of the moon. Gotta love the naive, liberal word-police on all message boards though. All pure as the driven snow and above reproach, indeed. I've had PM's from people thanking me for having the stones to put the question out there. The (over)reaction by everyone involved speaks volumes. Thanks for making my point.

You have REALLY BIG STONES Bad Body Odor, writing crap on a message board. Its a shame that you see the bad in people and don't understand that some people run into financial situations. It was a gift that a few members wanted to give to help out 2 fellow board members, they never asked for it and nobody had to give anything only if they wanted. So he can throw out, sell or use them as coasters if he wants. I guess you would ask for a house warming gift back if the person decides they want to sell their house a year or two later...JOKE See Ya

This is a message board. Not a democracy. Next time you're out shopping with your significant other, pick up some cheese to go with your whine.

I don't see any intent by daniel or blackie to take advantage of anyone. Appears to be more a case of being overly aggressive in finishing their sets and as a result spending more than their budget would allow. Perhaps a significant other does not approve. Could also be some burn out. Even with some cards received as gifts I don't believe they would break even after a sell off. I would suggest taking a break and returning to collecting when conditions are improved and going a bit more cautiously.

Hey Rob,

Don't let any of this bother you man. Ive sold my collection before. Being in the service has challenges that not everyone understands. Frequent moves, deployments the bills can get crazy! Your cards your collection man. Responding to those comments just keeps him going. I bet Daniel has been on a convoy or two hisself....... You don't owe anyone nothing! Sell the cards, pay your bills, keep them and enjoy them it's not his business.
