Does SGC give out set registry awards? If so, what do you get? Plaque? Certificate? Other? And, does your set have to be complete to get the award or just the best in that category?

I'm thinking about starting a '62, '63 or '65 registry ('67 is an option too). I know some PSA guys might argue this, but the SGC registry blows away PSA's registry. I just love the carousel with the pictures. I've heard talk for well over a year now of how SGC is going to put more efforts into the set registry, but I just haven't seen it. Am I missing something? It just makes sense that if there are more folks involved in the registry then they woud get more submissions, so you think they would try to get more participants into the registry and really promote it. Also, you think they would offer some cross over specials.

David,

They did that back in 2010 ... Registry Awards ... not sure why they discontinued it.

I think it was more Brians project and when he left, the ball was dropped, I really wish Earl or someone else would get back on this.

I know most of us really liked it and hoped it would continue.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm no marketing genius, but it doesn't take one to realize that the registry is the key to PSA's success. The more people you have competing means more submissions.

I think SGC could increase their business tremendously if they put more resources into their registry.

I really like the fact that SGC has the "Way I collect" option. Since I am mainly a player collector as opposed to full sets, this is a good thing for me. I see that a lot of other people use it too!

Were I to begin another graded set, I'm not sure it would be SGC. The holders are much thicker and storage for 500+ cards is a problem. Now, if they offered another two grand to the top set in each year again, I might reconsider. Combine that with a $5 special and the grading fees could end up being comped.

I'm also not sure it would be PSA. They don't get the grades consistently correct enough to endear me to their services.

I'm not sure it would be high grade raw either. High quality raw cards are becoming more and more scarce.

For now, I'll just continue with what I'm doing (see sig line to get an idea).
