I think there are way to many of them and that they have become the norm in every new product produced. I hate watching collectors at shows opening boxes apon boxes of cards looking for the little fabric cards and one of one's. I realize older stuff is not for everyone and there needs to be a balance in the hobby but does anyone else on here think it's gotten a little out of control? Has it hurt or helped the hobby?

HUGE money is being spent on those modern memorabilia cards so to a certain extent it seems as though that is what the "customers" want. Companies will continue to put it out in large quantities as long as collectors are willing to shell out the cash.

I'm not a fan of those insert cards.

Seems to me that it would be too easy for them to go to the local sporting goods store and buy a jersey or bat off the rack, cut it up and put the pieces in cards, claiming them to be "authentic game-used relics of Player X".

And if they actually cut up something like a Babe Ruth jersey, or Mickey Mantle bat, then they should be ashamed for destroying a piece of baseball history just to make an extra buck on a box of cards.

I never understood how a woodchip could be considered a relic?!

I do think the autographed stuff is fine though. Pricey but a nice Leftey Grove or Johnny Unitas autograph in a pack is a cool thing.

I have no interest in any of this crap. I mean really, a piece of a jersey, a sliver of a bat. But, now a spent cartridge from "Dirty Harry's" 44 magnum, I just might be interested in that.

Harry: "Every day for the past ten years, Loretta here's been giving me a large black coffee- except today she gives me a large black coffee and it has sugar in it. Alotta sugar. I just came back to complain."
Crook: Say what, sucka?
Harry: Well, we're not just gonna let you walk out of here.
Crook: Who'se we sucka?
Harry: Smith and Wesson... and me.

One of the classic cop lines of all time. Do you remember the movie "The Blue Knight"? In it Bumper Morgan tells the crook he is being arrested. When the crook asks "What For", he tells him "Contempt of Cop". Love it

Good series Tony

Rudy Garcia: Don't you cops ever believe anybody?
Bumper Morgan: We keep trying

New stuff is absolutely fools gold crap.

The Dirty Harry discussion is definately more appealing.

I also like the Charles Bronson "Ten til Midnight"
scence at the end where Charlie finally corners the "perp"

PERP: "Im sick and need help" You can do nothing to me!" "I'll be back!" "you'll hear from me again!"

BRONSON: "No we won't" Bang! right between the eyes.

Its too bad the Bleeding hearts protect these kind of scumbags. Justice would be much better served, and at a lot lower cost(one Bullet) the Dirty Harry and Bronson way.

John

I like it and its about time. Either you adapt to today or you will go the way.
There are some fantastic cards that would look great in SGC holders. The 96 Frank Thomas Leaf collection for 1. The different Pujols rookies that are game used and the list goes on..
