by getting a base hit he is honoring his grandmother? How many times does he have to do it before it becomes a look at me type deal. Ballplayers that have all those little reactions to doing there job just get under my skin I guess. To each there own.

I for one dont there there is such a thing as a GREAT relief pitcher. Even the imortal Mariano was a failed starter. Case and point the Orioles took Tommy Hunter out of the rotation and made him a long reliever late this season and he went from 92-94 and all of the sudden hes hitting 98-100 on the gun. Thats not a comparison of Rivera and Hunter by any means just saying that most failed starters become relivers. Most Starters are pitchers most closers and throwers IMO. Here's my gas try and hit it type of thing.

I've got a problem with these jerk offs standing at home and watching the ball knowing it is going to be a home run. When did that start?

Started when MLB decided to issue a warning everytime a player got brushed inside by a fastball or hit period. I know most people think thats a good rule and I guess it makes sense but I do know that 40 years ago no one dared stand and stare at a homerun off a guy like Gibson and the era before him....No Way! You wanna know why guys hit home runs left and right its mainly because they lean out over the plate swing from the heels and could care less if they whiff 200 times a year. Love how people that try to defend steriods saying garbage like the pitchers use them to! Fact remains that bigger and stronger almost always benfits the hitter more.

Reggie Jackson in the 1970's. He never did it when he faced Bob Gibson or Don Drysdale. Or, better said, he never did it twice against Gibson or Drysdale. Those two didn't care if they hit you or not, whether you got up or not after a brushback.

I was having this very same conversation with a guy at work the other day. I even used Gibson as an example. Back then, if you crowded the plate, a pitcher like Gibson would throw at your head. Today, a player doesn't care if they get hit or not with all that body armor they have on.

That's just one of the reasons why I really dislike the modern game of baseball. Sure, I watch it, but I would rather watch old films of baseball any day.

And football is becoming the same way. The league/rules are making it so difficult to play defense it becoming a sissy sport.

Every see mantle hits a rocket on those old films, head down, sprint around the base path, nowaday a guy wants to admire it, point to the sky, do a little fist bump bunny hop out of the box. Baseball and football was played by men then, overpaid, pampered premadonnas ( not all ) today. Sad but hard to argue against this I think
