For a team that is struggling to come up with the big hits, hope the O's beat the NYY tonight and go on....

It's beginning to look like a repeat of the 1968 matchup to me: Tigers/Cardinals. Verlander is untouchable so far. Cardinals, what can you say? That's just a winning organization.

We shall see if their comeback from 0-6 hole tonight is "in the Cards." Washington's rookie phenom finally shook off the cobwebs with a triple and homer his first two at bats. Dude was 1-for-18 before tonight.

Edit Reason: mid-6th inning update

Across the room, standing alone by his locker, Mark DeRosa, now a National and once a Cardinal, nodded slowly.

"The Cardinals, they find a way, man," he said. "It's like they go over there and put on that Cardinal uniform and something just happens. They chip away and chip away and they just find a way to beat you."

The Cards are unbelievable.
I went to bed to finishing watching the last 2 plus innings and set the timer on the tv to shut off at a hour. With St. Louis at bat trailing 7-5 in the ninth, two outs, with two runners on on base, my TV shuts off and foolishly I just rolled over and fell asleep.
I'll never do that again.

As great as Verlander is, he has been less than great in the post season at times when not going up against the A's. The Yankees didn't hit the ball much against the O's until late in games, but they are a much better hitting team then Oakland. The Tigers have 4 right handed starters that throw hard (how much will Arod play?)but no lefty starter to take the mound which will be especially important at Yankee stadium.
Detroit's bullpen seems tired.
But, the Yankees do have a few guys that have a history of coming up short in the post season and they look old at times.
Hope it's a good series.

So far this baseball post season has been spectacular.

Yes it has, lifelong o's fan I'll never forget this season. Hate to admit it but that new wildcard just might be a good thing. I'm a purist so saying that hurts a bit!!!!
