Manti. Feel good story. Good media play. NBC wants ND back in prominence.

Notre Dame is \:\) a conference.
I actually liked it back in the day when ND, Penn State, Fla. State, Miami were all indepedents. Free to schedule any and all "out of conference" foes from around the country.

We're on our way to some 16-team mega-conferences I believe.

Is the 4-team playoff instituted this year?

My vote would be Johnny football also but I don't think he will get it.Next should be Miller but since Ohio st is banned and competition not so strong, hes out.Klein would have won but bad game against one of the worst defenses in college football, hes out. Lee had a great year but USC was the biggest disappointment in college football, hes out. That leaves only Manti, he is easily best defensive player in college and playing on the only undefeated team that is not banned and playing for Notre Dame, he will win it..

Tebow was the 1st as a sophmore.
Manziel numbers are there in comparison to previous Qb winners. No doubt he should.
But they may stir away from him being a freshman..and give it to Nd's Teo

Blackie nailed it. To the wall. Congrats. You either know your college football or you should've bought a lottery ticket the same day you posted your picks.

Never thought they'd give it to a freshman.

Glad they gave it to who they thought was most deserving.

Now if one day they can give it a defensive player that would be something.

Charles Woodson is the only one to win while primarily being a defensive player but he did also play wide receiver.

BBO, who did Woodson beat out that year?

That overrated Manning kid from Tennessee. Couldn't even beat out a primarily defensive player for an offensive-only award. Pathetic, but telling.

Since the player in the Heisman statue is carrying a football, I seriously doubt if it will ever go to to a defensive player. No defensive player in my recollection was as much of a "quarterback" on that side of the line as Te'O. If he can't win it, I can't imagine who could.

The year Andre Ware (Houston) won it, I believe you'll be surprised at who came in seventh.

Good guess, but no. I think Sanders won it in 1988, then turned pro.

HINT: The same person came in 9th in 1987 as a freshman, then had an off-year in 1988, then finished 7th in 1989. Seemed as if his career would never take off....then BOOM.
