I have my invoice #, but not a customer #. The form says they assign that on the first submission. How do I check the status of my cards? Thanks.

Here is what ya do. Go to the main SGC page and go to submission status. You will have to sign in with user name and password then you can type in your submission number and it should give you your grades or status of your submission (i.e order processing). Try this and see if it works.

You get a customer # on your first submission. You'll have to call or email Monday, preferably to Earl, to get your customer #. They get it to you real quick.

I send them in and leave the customer number blank.

Most of the folks use Photobucket. Just upload your scans from your docs, then select or hover your cursor over the pic and select IMG code from the dialogue box that appears, click on it, it will flash copied, then go the board and paste it in your post.

As my dad used to say, easier than crapping in a well, and not near as dangerous.

me: You gonna eat em?
dad: "Is a 40 pound Robin fat", hell yeah im gonna eat em

I have to get the Ford, Rizzuto, Berra, Spahn graded. Probably others that I'm just not thinking of right now. This Martin might just be the sharpest in the set. The rest are largely mid-grade, some a little better or worse.

Who was the artist whom painted the 53 topps. I know those pics arent photos per say are they? Great artwork sets those cards way up high in my book making it one of the most beautiful Topps issues.

Oh I see. Daryl i can't ever get over how great it is to really look at those cards. Ive stewed over the thought of putting a raw low grade and i mean low grade set together someday in a nice binder. The big names in that set cost a pretty penny.

Yeah I've thought about the 53's before to man, I have a nice Mantle in a five but that wasn't cheap lol! High grade low grade whatever it's topps coolest set IMO not my fav probably cause I can't afford it but it just screams old baseball. There's a Satchal Paige card and a Bobo Newsome!!! No BoBo's or Satchals running around today

Believe me, I understand. This is the most money I will ever be able to spend on a set. i had some special circumstances that made this possible. And even then, I am looking at a mid-grade set. I love it for all the reasons you guys have named. They have always looked like what I imagine a vintage ball card is supposed to look like. They really capture the imagination.

Here are some of the raw 53s I will get graded eventually. Some of these are better than others. They are all clean...no creases, wrinkles, etc. Mainly surface/edge/corner wear...
I will put up some others in a few days. Pretty decent cards....

A mid grade set for that year always looks better than alot Of early topps stuff cause those cards just look great period! No creases good centering and you got a presentable set.

Yep, I LOVE the set!! A friend of mine is 20 years my senior. He's building it because it is the year he was born. Like someone said earlier, it is Americana. When I think of vintage baseball cards, I think of 53 Topps. There are a few cards here or there in the set I might upgrade but, overall, I am pretty happy.

Here's a few graded ones...does anyone think the Mantle is a crossover candidate? It doesn't have any creases. Too much corner wear for regrade? Thoughts?? If nothing else, it is a very solid and presentable 4.

I'd keep that mantle as is that's a great looking 4. Most be corner wear. I have a 5 that's not any better than that IMO although I can't see the corners up close. Overall appearance is just as good is what I'm getting at I guess. Nice stuff man!

You might be able to get a bump on the mantle to 4.5. Although PSA is stingy as he'll with half grade especially on pricey stuff.

Yes, they are. I would go with SGC. I will never submit to PSA again. I am not opposed to buying cards that are in a PSA slab, provided they possess the qualities I am looking for.

It is refreshing to be around folks who realize a card can be nice and solid without being an "8". Don't get me wrong, who wouldn't like to have a collection of them? I know of collectors who have a lot more $$ than I ever will who won't even look at a card that is EX 5. I will never have the $$ to do that. I really enjoy what I am able to get. I like looking at the stuff you guys put up. I have seen some really nice stuff from you.

Hey, no problem. Thanks for looking at them. I am glad that I found this board. Other than a friend I see about an hour a week, I have no one else to talk cards with.

Wow thanks for all the 53's pics, what a great set you have there, awesome cards!!!! First thats an amazing Mantle, love the centering and I really think that will cross to SGC and I also think its bump worthy, looks like a 60 to me! To be honest it looks stronger than your Feller that got a 5. Love your Mathews too sharp card.

I absolutely agree with SMtjoy,

That Mantle is far more appealing to me than the feller in the 5 holder. Great cards man!
Yes, I also agree they would present better in the SGC holder as well.

Good luck with your collection and hope to see more of it.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I am definitely thinking about some crossover action in the future...at least with the Mantle. The worst that can happen is that SGC gives it a 4 too. Either way, I love the card and set!

You might look at your photo editor settings to tone down the flaws to make them more representative of the actual card. I'd start with toying around with the sharpening setting, maybe tone it down just a tad, doesn't take much and play with your contrast setting but again in small increments. It's kinda of a balancing act to keep the pic as sharp as you can while getting the flaws in line with the actual card. You might also play around with your scanner settings, very slightly, to get the pic like you want it. To get the clutter/lint off the pics, keep your scanner bed clean. I dust mine off before every use. Also make sure there's no lint/dust etc on your card holder. Your scans look real nice though.

Really nice cards, and like the rest, they really look so much better in SGC holders.

This is pretty much me to a T. I light up when I'm cruising Ebay and see a card from the 50's that obviously spent time in the spokes of some kids bicycle. I get the card I want, and don't have to break the bank to do it. I do appreciate the finer quality cards, I just get the same satisfaction from my 54 Aaron that someone with a NM version would.

I wanted to comment on the hi-def scans and they do really bring out the issues more so then holding the card in your hand, one thing to remember is that's how the graders are looking at your cards and why I think a lot of people are disappointed with the grades they get back, esp first time submitters. They might look great in hard but grading is more about identifying flaw even tiny ones more so than judging the strengths of a card.

I said I would post a scan of my 50 Bowman Robinson when I got it back. A faint paper wrinkle in the lower right(I guess, it doesn't go through to the back)kept it from 60. I am happy with it....it presents well.

Jackie Robinson was a bum.

But then, so were all the other Dodgers, at least according to Yankees fans.

Thanks for the kind words. I recently bought this one. I had one about 10 yrs ago that I had to sell. I am enjoying putting this set together. I have this card and about 8 commons so far. It will take a while. I will build it in PSA/SGC 4-6, maybe 7. Looking for good deals for the particular grades...you know how it goes.

vintagebaseball, is this more representative of the actual card or is it exaggerated too much? The label kinda washed out, but that can be fixed.

I tend to think it's exaggerated a little too much, but without the card in hand or none like it to compare with kinda hard to tell.

Sweet card.

I have a few of my 53s that just arrived at SGC. I will be anxious to get them back, but it will be a while....

I guess Tom Petty was right...the waiting is the hardest part.
