I have been contemplating sending in a few cards for an attempt at half grade bumps. I feel they are worthy but the real question is does the half grade bump really translate into increased value? Here are two for example. Is it worth it to try and get half grade bumps on these? What do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

Two awesome cards, I just sent 5 cards in about the same range for a bump.

I think it depends on the card for a bump but the more expensive the better for the most part.

On those two here are the VCP-

The T206 Young-

Latest Auction Prices for: SGC 50 - Average Price: $920.64

Latest Auction Prices for: SGC 60 - Average Price: $1,762.50

I would say for the $25 its well worth it on that card, I would think a 55 would sell around $1100-1300. The last PSA 4.5 sold 3 years for $1108.

The M116 Mathewson-

Latest Auction Prices for: SGC 50 - Average Price: $660.00

Latest Auction Prices for: SGC 60 - Average Price: $776.00

This one is a much tougher call, even the PSA values are close until you reach the real high grade. So do you want to roll the dice on $25 to add maybe $40-50 in value. I will say your card looks a lot stronger than the young to me, heck unless something you cant see on a scan looks like a 60. I would send it in too.

Based on the scans, I don't think the Young will bump. The Matty has a much better chance. Depends on how long ago they were originally graded, too. Bottom line is, don't try it unless you think the card clearly deserves the bump. Include a note and ask them to tell you why, if it doesn't make it.

I think you have a shot at a bump on the Young. As Scott mentioned, it's worth the gamble. I would do it.

No chance on the Mathewson. Just looking at the scan, if I didn't know the grade, I would guess it were a 6, maybe a 7 because of the fairly sharp corners. That tells me that there is another flaw with the card (I'm guessing a crease) that brought it down to a 4. So, if it is creased (which I believe it to be), it would not bump.

Thanks for the input. I do appreciate it. The Matty does not have any creases or wrinkles. What downgrades it is very slight and I mean slight residue on the back and SGC said that a 4 was the highest grade it could receive. That was before they started half grades. Otherwise the card would be an easy 6 possibly a 7. So I guess the question is would SGC give out a 4.5 with slight residue on the back? I'll ask them before I send it in. Thanks again for the input.
