Earl, Michael and SGC:

I am writing on these boards in request to remove one card from the 1958 Topps set Registry. The card #433 Poncho Herrera Error Card. Many assume this is an error card and it more of a misprint that draws quite huge sums of money. There are already several varations in this set which are pretty tough to come by in higher grades such as the Yellow Varations and Numerical Checklists. I would like to see if we could remove this card as it is impossible for us 58 Registry guys to complete this set in full 100% if this card is still in the set.

Here are a few arguments on this Error card. Please consider my request.

Hey Rob. You may have something here. In the 1959 set there are 3 variations in the Warren Spahn card, an error, an attempted fix to the error and the corrected card. You might solicit the help of Mike, BBO, as he is the official 1959 expert. Don't know if they have all three listed in the registry, but might be worth looking into.

I know for a fact all the variations, errors, etc are not listed in the 1962 set. I have a complete master set with all of the variations, errors, green tints etc and they're not all listed in the registry. Good for me, but might add to your argument.

Ok will do. Hopefully Mike will ready this. Maybe he can key in on how i need to approach this. I am in hopes that Earl, Michael or another SGC staff member reads this.

Agree. This card is not a true "error" but a lighly printed "a" in the last name.

I may try to call up to SGC later next week after the Holidays to talk to someone in person.

Only one Spahn card is included in the 1959 set, and apparently any one of the three will suffice. But the five (5) no-option, no-traded cards (which are much more difficult than two of the Spahns) are included. To include them never made sense to me. The five are all commons: 316-Lumenti (which is also an uncorrected error of photo of Camilo Pascual), 321-Giallombardo, 322-Hanebrink, 336-Loes and 362-Nichols.

The most obscure error is the #416 Haywood Sullivan "no circle/no period after U.S.A" copyright card. That one is not included either.

All "error" cards should be reserved for master sets and any version of the card should suffice for a base set on the registry. In the case of 1959, SGC got the Spahn and Sullivan right by excluding them, but blew it on the others by including them. I say that even though I have all five of the no-option/trade cards in my set.

While you're at it, try getting the 1959 and 1958 insert "cards" removed. They're not really cards, but paper thin slips of paper, unnumbered and having little to nothing to do with the set. One, I have, the other I've never even seen. Furthermore, neither Levi Bleam, Kit Young nor Larry Fritsch had it when I inquired several years ago. That makes it infinitely more obscure than the 1958 Herrer(a) card. Totally unnecessary to include either card in a basic set.

Thanks for the feedback and help Mike. I will call Earl on Monday at SGC and see what i can do. When you say the insert cards you mean the blony cards right?

I sent a PM and seen that SGC read it but didn't get a response back from anyone. I also sent an email with no response but ive gotta call and talk to a person i guess. We will see if we can make that happen. I can see the Yellow Varations but just cant see a Herra with an "A" missing or barley visible in most of the copies ive seen being a 10.00 pt heavy card in the registry.
