My brother been wanting this card for a very long time.
It suppose to be the 1st card Topps ever made.
I see theres 2 variations i found: Red Back and Black Back.
Topps list them as #1 and #1A(Black), assuming #1 is the red ones then.

Anyways i been searching this whole year. He wants a low end card 2-4
I found some SGC 40/3 for sell, but reviewed the past market on Ebay and they seem to hit bottom on the market, but people asking for high amounts.

What would you pay for a SGC 40/3 these days?
and so on...like a 2.5, 2
Or does anyone have one thats for sale here?

Damn, another failed attempt. Let it go.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400374133861

Here is what transpired:

ME:
I am asking to offer 120 for this card. The market has dropped on this card. I did see where you listed it on Dec 20 for 262.05, If not try a low starting bid of 100 and see what action this brings.
Based on past sold items on Ebay,
Oct 26 a sgc 40/3 sold for 190.38
Nov 3 a sgc 40/3 sold for 150.00

SELLER:
Thanks for your interest. This card has dropped but I am still priced at a good level. A PSA 4 sold for $399 and if I take 70% (as suggested by SMR) of that it comes to $280 above what I am asking. In addition this is a black back which adds a premium to the value.

ME:
If im not mistaken, your card is a 3, a sgc 40/3. VCP states the average is around $231.79 on an SGC 40. This coming from SGC board members. And claiming a PSA value is different from a SGC. Prices listed in the SMR Online are based on PSA-certified/graded collectibles. The clear benefit of having your items certified by PSA is because, generally speaking, items certified by PSA tend to sell for more - sometimes significantly more - than those that are not. And the black back does not add a premium. The red backs are considered the 1st cards.
Sorry i mistakenly low-balled, but i may offer 225 for it

SELLER:
Thanks again for your note. You are right that PSA cards get more than SGC even though SGC are better graders.
Where do you live? as I would do the $225 you offered in person.

ME:
so 225 total cost is a offer you will accept? The 2nd half of your response sounds too sketchy in terms. I would never do a 'in person', unless at a card shop and several cops around. LOL. You would have to ship it to Georgia. You could do a BIN option here or send a Paypal request (which is still protected)

SELLER:
I was thinking we could meet at a card show that I regularly set up in White Plains NY but that is obviously not feasible for you.

Thanks for your offer of $225 but I can not do it that low on EBay as the fees kill me. Best I could do is $250 on EBay with a best offer.

Is there PayPal protection on an off eBay purchase i.e. the auction ends and you buy it outside of eBay and not use gift?

So then he wouldn't have to eat eBay fees, just PayPal fees and the OP would be protected. I would offer that. Although the in person thing sounded strange, I can understand a guy wanted to sell in person for a cheaper price, but only if he doesn't get hit with PayPal & eBay fees. The biggest chunk is eBay, so he would at least save on that. For a PSA 3 Black Back Average = $198.39 even with a $381 off center Mile High shill fest. There have been (2) $200 best offers taken and a $210 best offer taken. SGC 40 Black Back Average = $186.09 with no shill fests to boost the average. Your $225 offer is pretty fair and SGC is just as strong as PSA in the 1-3 grade range.

Yep if the seller would remove off of ebay and send invoice to KRB then he should be fine. Im still trying to research protection coverages while not using ebay. Seems to be legit. I have purchased numerous cards outside of ebay from ebay sellers whom removed the item and sent an invoice via Paypal. I felt good about it and I guess the seller did too.

I bought several bundles by the seller taking it off Ebay and just use Paypal. Any yes, Paypal is protected still. Make sure and not use the GIFT option tho and make sure the items bought are described in that invoice. It works on saving cost and makes my cost a bit lower. IT WORKS!!!

Yes, i think i did my homework, and offered a reasonable price. He just sounds too much of a BV guy and have to pass it by.
