Ok, so I purchased a 53 Topps Spahn on eBay, and it arrived today. It was a PSA 5. The scans looked like a strong, undergraded ex 5. I got it out and saw nice centering, corners, gloss, etc. Then I saw it...a crease not a wrinkle near the upper middle of the card by his ear. It went through to the back! A crease in a 5 holder?? Didn't think I would ever see it. I have already shipped it back. Just another reason I am liking SGC as TPGer more and more...not that it couldn't happen to them too I guess, but it is more real when it happens to you.

PSA will give a 5 to a card with a crease. If you read their grading standards, they do say that. So, if you're not sure, you may want to email the seller to save you time and money.

I've never seen an SGC 60 (5) with a crease, but like you said I guess it could happen to them too. The difference is that PSA will knowingly give a 5 to a card with a crease and SGC will not.

I knew they'd allow a wrinkle, it has been a long time since I have read their standards. I didn't remember a crease being considered ex, but you are obviously right. Normally, I get a lot more info on a card before I buy it. I let my guard down, and was very unhappy with the result.

Oh, and I very much agree with SGC's outlook regarding creases not knowingly being given a 5/60.

I hear ya. An EX card shouldn't have either.
