What Happened??

When i collected back in the 80's (I did not collect from 1990's thru 2010) this card was VERY expensive. I bought one, cant remember what I spent, but I remember I was/am a Giants fan and wanted it because I THOUGHT it was rare????

Mine is pretty strong corners, off center a very tad bit.

But now I look it up on EBAY and find its not worth a bit???

it must be becasue of the #1 phase. Where everyone wants the #1 card from the issue, supposing makes it rare or something along that line. Theres still a few cards (#1's) that are very expensive till this day.

The theory is that the #1 card is difficult to find in high grade (NM or better) due to a lot of them having rubber band marks or just more wear in general usually due to being exposed the most.

The prices you see in the price guides are for NM cards. Anything below NM and the card starts dropping in value drastically.

That only applies to #1 common cards though such as '53 Williams, '52 Pafko, '55 Rhodes, etc. It really doesn't apply to #1 star cards such as '53 Robinson, '54 Williams, etc. Anything less than NM and those will still drop in value, but not as significantly as a common.
