Hi,
I picked up a 1887 Allen & Ginter Glasscock SGC 30 today on ebay for $225. I was trying to get some price comparisons to see if I got a good deal. Can some one help? Thanks

No results were found for 1887 allen & ginter glasscock.

Maybe you meant...Set Name:1888 Allen & Ginter, that's how VCP shows it.

The prices I posted are from VCP. With cards like these (that don't come up for sale that often), it's kind of hard to gauge prices as they are all over the place.

For example, the last SGC 40 sold for $179.50 (over 2 years ago), but the last (before yours) SGC 30 sold for $230.37 (nearly 4 years ago). In other words, the lesser grade card sold for more money.

That's why, in my opinion, VCP is really worthless on cards that don't come up for sale that often - prices are hard to gauge. A lot of that also depends on the eye appeal when you get into lower grade cards. In other words, some 2's display better than some 4s, so a strong 2 may bring a lot more money than a weak 2.

All that really matters is if you're happy with it or not.


I'll take this opportunity to show off my N28...


It's a 2 with the eye appeal of a 4 or 5. The slight paper loss on the neck brings the grade down. A card like this would probably sell for more money than a card of the same grade that had multiple creases and/or rounded corners, because my 2 has better eye appeal.
