Wheww! A "Downed Scanner" is cause for panic at my house! LOL!
I had some errors and problems with a Cannon Scanner I had locking up. I would usually just disconnect the Power plug from the scanner for 30 seconds or so and plug it back in. The scanner would then reset itself. If that don't work I just unhook it and throw it in the trash! LOL

Man I hear that. I downed scanner is a major issue, of which few other issues can match in importance. I've even thought about purchasing one just to have for backup, just in case.
