Hello all! I'm new to the SGC world and just purchased a 1961 Musial Topps graded 80 EXMT. I purchased this from my phone so the scans were small and I couldn't really study it. Can anyone tell me if this is an old SGC label? I asked the seller about the right edge of the holder and he said it is light frosting which is common, even freshly graded cards. Bottom line, can anyone tell if this is legit from my scans? Thanks!

Looks legit to me. Decent price considering this isn't a good time to be buying Musial cards

Cool, I was worried cause the SGC label looks different. It's missing the website address and the single digit grade, plus the back of the label looks green & gold. May be the pic, I haven't received it.
On a side note, what's the lowest grade you would purchase for a vintage card? I'm building my collection to pass on to my son someday (he's only 8 mo. now).

I had asked the flip question before and with the help of several of these guys - have come up with a timeline on the SGC flips.
(1) SG on the front Pre 1999 (2) SGC on the front minus 1-10 grade 1999 thru 2004 (3) SGC on the front plus 1-10 grade plus gold label on the back 2005 thru 2008 (4) SGC on the front plus 1-10 grade plus SGC pressed into the back 2009 thru Current
So it looks like the card in question is a PRE 99 SGC Slab

There is even another variant. The pressed on SGC (the latest slab) had a short period were the press was on the inside of the slab instead of the outside where it is now.

I think you're going to be surprised with your '53s (and not in a good way). My guess is that most will grade SGC 30-70 range, with maybe a 6 or 6.5 in there. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm just basing my opinion on what I see (and mostly what I don't). Good luck and let us know how they come out.
Just posted in the Mail call thread...but figured i reply here with the feedback some guys wanted to hear:
Details Item # Year Publisher Set Card# Player Name Description Grade 1 1953 Topps 182 BOB HOFMAN 60 2 1953 Topps 203 CLIFF FANNIN 60 3 1953 Topps 100 BILL MILLER 55 4 1953 Topps 217 MURRAY WALL 70 5 1953 Topps 140 TOMMY GLAVIANO 60 6 1953 Topps 89 CHUCK STOBBS 55 7 1953 Topps 171 BILL GLYNN 80 8 1953 Topps 73 EDDIE ROBINSON 80 9 1953 Topps 83 HOWIE POLLET 60 10 1953 Topps 212 JACK DITTMER ROOKIE 80 11 1953 Topps 202 CARL SAWATSKI 60 12 1953 Topps 22 HOWIE FOX 60 13 1958 Topps 150 MICKEY MANTLE 55 14 1966-67 Dexter Press MICKEY MANTLE N.Y. Yankees 40 15 2013 Regrade REGRADE 0 - T
DONT KNOW WHAT 0-T stands for, i hope they slabbed the card "A" anyways. I hated that CSA holder

At least there were none in the 30-50 range. If 55 is your worst grade, you did OK, but if you're like most of us, probably at least a little disappointed. But an 80 grade on a 60-year old card is pretty good. It's tough for us to grade with just scans.
If you did not specify to slab if authentic, then that card will come back to you in the CSA holder.
