I'm an on-again, off-again collector of 1986-87 Fleer basketball cards. I saw this new listing on Ebay yesterday and I initially got excited - low BIN + reasonable shipping.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1986-87-FLEER-31...=item20cee76307
In case the link doesn't work - here's where my confusion comes in. The card has an 8500... serial number with only the single 96 grade. This should be a brand new flip with the 96 and 9 equivalent. I input the number in my registry set to see if its legit, the serial number is accepted but the grade is a 5, not a 96. Really strange. I'm not going to buy it, but I wonder what's up. Anyone have any thoughts?

That is rather strange. It should populate as a SGC 96. I would be very leary of this.

Its quite possible there may be some glitch in the system but that does not make sense.

Isn't BigPuma a respected seller? Maybe he is even unaware.

To check out the real grade, create a 1986-87 set or add it to your set if you have one already, and it will populate in that set and you can see what it really is. Don't forget to delete it afterwards. This will not work if anyone else has it listed in their set.

That is wierd STMF. The 8XXXXX means that it was an on-line invoice. I have copies of a couple of old ones in my desk -- 8100140 -- received 12/12/2002 and 8115772 -- received 7/2/2003. Both invoices show the split grade scale.

cammb, good point and I don't pretend to understand it.
All I can tell you is from the very beginning, the online invoices started with an 8, the hardcopy invoices started with a 1. And, you are right, the current online invoices aren't yet up to 85XXXX.... Weird.
