As I was going through my 1971 set, I noticed the Ted Simmons rookie card and thought that was a great rookie card from my youth.

Is his card or possibly the combo of Baylor/Paciorek/Baker the best rookie card from that set?

For the 1972 set, I'd vote for the JR Richard rookie.

1971 also has Steve Garvey and Dave Concepcion....but I like the Ted Simmons RC as well.

1970 Topps Thurman Munson is prob my fav from the 70's.

Good thread!!

1952 (flat out filled with 'em) - Pete Runnels, Minnie Minoso, Dick Groat and Joe "the old lefthander" Nuxhall.

1959 - Felipe Alou, Norm Cash, Jim Perry.

1963 (though I hate the floating head cards) - Tony Oliva and Bill Freehan (tie); Rusty Staub and Dave McNally (Honorable Mention).

1964 - Mickey Lolich and Tommy John (tie); Tony Conigliaro, Willie Horton, Tony LaRussa, Richie Allen and "Sweet Lou" Pinella (Honorable Mention).

1965 - Luis Tiant with Mel Stottlemyre Honorable Mention and Denny McLain DIS-Honorable Mention.

1966 (weak year for rookies) - Bobby Murcer with George Scott Honorable Mention.

1967 - Joe Niekro with Mark Belanger Honorable Mention.

That about covers the years I care about.

None. Zip. Zero. Nada. But the floating head shot is about all he deserves, AFAIC.
