I have deceided to collect the T 205 cards. Their beauty has attracted me for some time. I have deceided to collect raw for the simple fact that I can admire more on a twenty pocket sheet rather than in a plastic case. I have several in a SGC holder that I am cracking out today. I hope I'm doing the right thing because everything I collect is in a SGC holder.

Yep, T205s and T206s is where it is at in terms of pre-war, especially the minor leaguers T205. Here is my fav card, and my avatar on Net54:

One of the biggest drawbacks of the whole TPGing thing, as Cammb is finding out, is the absolute inability to view and enjoy your sets.

First you need a wheelbarrel to even move the 100 lbs of plastic. Then you can only handle and view a handful at a time and it quickly becomes a confusing mess of bulky plastic slabs. Then you have to get them back in the wheelbarrel..... etc... Enjoying the sets is lost, as it becomes more of a chore than anything else just getting the cards out.

The beauty of the flow of a card set is really unmatched in Ultra pro pages and albums, which are easily viewed on one's lap.

Ive cracked literally 100's cards for my raw sets and think Cammb will find out how much more he will be able to enjoy and view his set once he lose's all of that dead plastic weight holding back the enjoyment of the set.

I do still retain a slab collection. These are the ones that broke cleanly and are still usable.

I made custom labels for them before and sold small sets off using the slabs. I sold off at least 100 PSA slabs for a buck each as well.

Ive used the slabs for special projects like the Michael Jordan Sets I done.

Those Ive sold were to reputable collectors Ive known for years whos intent were special display projects like the Michael Jordan's and 100 bucks is a 100 bucks. Covering for the obvious flawed product being produced by TPGers is not my job.

If doing the "Right Thing" is your concern, might I suggest you contact your TPGer and demand to know why they continue to produce and distribute 1000's upon 1000's of these inferior products that enable "reholder guys" to scam others. Please keep us posted with your results.

Red, that is a GREAT idea.

If I had slabs, I would do that too. Put my really valuable cards in slabs, that way they are protected well, but also so you could "label" them so that when a family member or friend came over to view your collection, it would be clearly labeled.

Think I will go down to "Vintage Stock" and see if they sell anything close to that, that I can label mine with. Thanks for the idea!!

Hey John,

Do you have any more laying around. You just gave me a great idea. I have some SGC holders I've cracked that remained intact, but I'd like to have some PSA holders to use for display. I never thought about it when I was cracking PSA's out, so in the trash they went. I had quite a few that remained intact, but.

LMK, when you can. BTW...great idea on your Jordan cards.

How do you crack out without destroying the plastic? I have cracked out some but the case is destroyed as I clip a corner with wire cutters and then pry open with a screw driver.I like what you did with the Jordans John,that is a great idea.

I just use a screwdriver. Place in middle and tap through. Then carefully pry open. I save roughly 8 out of 10. I will start saving more in the future and send some out to you guys.

Cammb, I know we haven't seen eye to eye on some issues, But we're really not that much different when it comes to collecting Philosiphies.
I understand the appeal the TPGing slabs have and even do a few graded sets, But as we've discussed here, when it comes to handling, viewing and enjoying your sets, it really is no contest between Raw and Graded cards.

I used a simple flat "steak Knife" to crack the slabs. The majority pop right open and really are and inferior design in terms of being a secure counterfiet device.

I have to disagree about using the slabs for putting my valuable cards in. I believe that both the SGC and PSA slabs are both flawed designs which allows card movement that can create wear points on the card edges. If handled properly maybe not so much a problem, But I believe that cards that are bought and sold multiple times over and sent bak an forth through the postal system will over time create wear on the card itself.

Please PM me if you have a special display project you would like to do.

Here is another project that I have used SGC slabs for. Well only one slab is needed and none of the cards are actually stored inthe slabs. I call it my cyber set, as the cards only exist to display online.

Whereas basic card sets are stock and contain real photos, the T 205 set attracted me by their design and colors. To put them in a slab takes away from this. I will enjoy them better when I can view a sheet at a time. This set has changed my mind about slabbing everything and I am now a convert to certain sets remaining raw.

Red, lemme ask you this as well, if I re use one, how do i re seal? do they snap together? sorry for the ignorance, but i have never dealt with any of them.

They usually just snap together.

While we're on this subject, BBO's stated concern about these cracked slabs is a legit one, and I in no way advocate or condone any fraudulent use of them. I trust most who have responded in this thread are respectable collectors who have no ill intent with these slabs. With that being said, Most of these cracked slabs display obvious signs of being cracked out.
