I agree. I try to stay with the 2 full upgrade most of the times.

I agree with Mike, only worth going after 2 grade upgrades and only if the price is right. Get to that 90-95% first with the best deals for the money.

I think you should judge it most on budget, what does the typical 88 common run? Use that as your guide, if you can snag 86-92's at that number go for it but I would shoot for the most bang for the buck. Getting another 96 is cool but if that same money could get you 3-5 84-92 cards you need, I would go for the latter. As has been said you can always upgrade down the road.

Thanks brother. Yeah the 88's vary, mainly with low numbers 1-100 bringing the money. When i can get these under 30 i try to snag em. 96's are way overpriced on ebay on the buy it now but i was lucky getting this one with a decent snipe.

Rob

I was just razzing ya bit about the 96 card.

Solid advice from the board on the upgrading.

I would just continue to do as your doing. Stay within your budget and complete the set with cards that have nice eye appeal and are acceptable to you.

To tell ya the truth I might not even get caught up in all that upgrading stuff. It will be a set to be proud of once completed regardless of numbers on labels.

Here's a link that might help you in your quest to finish the set.

John thanks for the link and feedback. Wish I could rent your eyes and experience for a few months while trying to complete this master set. Ive picked up a few raws from a reputable dealer that may in fact fit in well in this set. Mainly they fit withing my budget (small as it may be)and fill some tough gaps. As I have mentioned before getting down to the final few cards Ive noticed the ones that I have yet to get are the tougher ones to find in decent shape. Ive kept a notebook and have taken some notes about the 58 set along this journey. Not to say Im the SME (subject matter expert) but I have tried to learn everything I can about this 58 set, from what players are toughest to get in decent condition, to the various markings, varations etc. Jim (trex) gave me several great ideas of not only how to enjoy this set more but to learn along the experience and that my friend is what keeps me going.

This set will be 100% by the end of year.......be on the lookout for more great things to come for those of you whom have followed me along this journey. I could not have done it without all you brothers. Big thanks to all you guys!

Your eyes are doing just fine, and in the end are the only ones that matter in the first place.

Ok getting down to the final touches here to reach 100% on my 1958 Topps Master set. The following commons are what i need that I don't have good copies enough to grade out. Guys if you have these cards available that could grade out a strong EXMT or better or close please please let me know. Willing to trade or buy out if possible. Here is the list im looking for...centering is important but not as important as no creases, good focus, minimal edge wear etc.

#23 Bill Tuttle (White letter) i have the yellow tough one

#29 Ted Lepcio

#36 Ted Kazanski

#37 Mike McCormick

#49 Smoky burgess

#59 Dave Sisler (dang hard to find a centered copy)

#61 Darrell Johnson (White letter)have the yellow tough one

#66 Lee Walls (need a crystal clear focused copy)

#67 Joe Ginsberg

#68 Daryle Spencer

#77 Don Zimmer (have the tough yellow team, need the common white team)

#89 Billy Klaus (need a good centered copy)

#93 Sandy Armoros

#98 Billy Hunter (white letter)have the tough yellow

#118 Harvey Haddix

#123 Dick Tomanek

#131 Bob Henrich

#135 Mike Drabowsky

#148 Billy Consolo need good centering
#154 Harry Byrd have a perfect copy on hand except through good light has dang crease

#158 Clevland Indidans Team card

#164 Bob Taylor

#165 Bob Nieman

#184 Elvin Tappe

#188 Milt Bolling

#189 George Susce

#191 Art Cecearelli

#197 Haywood Sullivan

#207 Solly Hemus needs good clear black background

#209 Bob Anderson

#210 Dick Rand

#227 Gene Stephens

#242 Johnny Klippstien

#244 Don Demeter

248 Herm Wehmeirer#

#254 Alex Grammas

#268 Granny Hamner

#278 Mack Burk

#298 Jim Hern Lookiing for good centered copy

#332 Jim King

#342 Jim Bronson

#344 Bob Porterfield

#348 Chico Fernandez

#355 Bill Bruton

#360 Roy McMilliam

#363 Don Elston

#367 Jack Urban

#371 Marty Keough

#415 Bob Bowman

#422 Norm Zachrin

#423 Phil Clark

Well these are what i need an don't have ready to sub to reach 100%.....that will meet the criteria of 533 card master set with all varations. I know this is alot to look and others are busy with there sets but if you get a chance take a look and see if you have any on hand.

Thanks guys...
