Today is day 20 on my April invoice (logged 4/24) and nothing but crickets. I've worn out my refresh button on Internet Explorer. Of course when it does pop, as we all know, the population report changes first, then a day or two later the grades post, with a couple of differences from the pop report. Never good news on the changes. Or is that just me? Wish I had the intestinal fortitude to forget about it until the postman rings the doorbell someday next week.

20 cards. All 1959 baseball. 1/3 PSA-slabbed crossover candidates, plus another 3 PSA crackouts and an equal number of SGC crackouts that I thought deserved another look. Only 1/3 truly new raw pickups. Gettin' scarce out there in raw land.

End of rant.

My first April invoice 27 HOF cards was received on the 18th and shipped on the 24th --19 workday turnaround --Scores were posted they day they shipped --mail came last Saturday

My second April submission 296 Non HOF Bowman 51s
was received the 24th
Tomorrow is the 20th day
I think even though a bulk submission it was considered an April Special
Will see if scores are posted tomorrow I am only 70 miles away and will pick up when notified hey are done as shipping/insurance costs will be much higher than gas and TKP fees

I know they are slammed as I talked to Earl today and he apologized that my sub was going to run a couple days late. I'm fine with that, having waiting on PSA subs last 3 years sometimes for over 50-60 days (they have gotten better lately thou), 23 days is great with me.

Good luck on those subs!

Good luck on your subs guys! I'm hoping to complete my 58 set by late summer or so and hopefully will send up a 60 card sub to get it there.

STEP ONE: Pop reports just changed, so preliminary grades are out on the morning of Day 21. Good job SGC.

Good news for me. Only one disappointment (an unexpected 60/5 EX) on a raw card from Paul Starks grading. Two more of his raw cards made 88, two made 84 and one 80, probably due to centering, as I recall on the 80.

A couple of "oh, well" at least I tried, meaning two SGC crackouts came back the exact same grade. A plus for consistency! One SGC 84 crackout made 86. I still think it's an 88, but I'll take it since it's an upgrade to my set.

Apparently five of seven PSA 8, in-the-slab crossovers did cross to SGC 88 and will upgrade my set. Two did not cross and are in the "aw, shucks" category. I don't think I'll have a problem with them once I have them back in hand. I recall a couple did have issues which is why I didn't crack them to begin with.

All three of the PSA 8's I cracked out that I was confident would cross, did cross. Two made 88 and one made 92. Meaning I've still got an eye for quality.

Finally, all of my Rookie Prospects subset (115-146) are now 88 or better, the last one being #128-Bob Hartman. Woohoo!

Now let's hope the grades hold and there are no surprising downgrades upon final review. So far, I am pleased.

All in all, 9 upgrades out of 16 possible on a 20-card sub. The duplicate-for-sale pile adds a 92, two 88's, an 86, three 84's and a couple of PSA 8's. Good enough to keep me on board.

Grades posted. Don't appear to be any changes since the original pop report update. These upgrade my set. The remainder are for sale.

1 1959 Topps 451 JIMMY CONSTABLE 84 (was 84 prior, proving you can't date a girl again, after you break up with her)
2 1959 Topps 521 GARY GEIGER 86 (was 86 prior, proving no amount of plastic surgery can improve one's true beauty)

These next three were all PSA 8 crackouts that I was confident would cross equal or better. I predicted 92, 88, 96 respectively.
3 1959 Topps 538 CHICK KING 88
4 1959 Topps 504 OSSIE ALVAREZ 88
5 1959 Topps 269 JACK MEYER 92

The next eight cards were all raw pickups, expecting mostly 88s and a couple of 86s.
6 1959 Topps 393 FRANK LARY 88
7 1959 Topps 386 JIM DELSING 60 (Oops!)
8 1959 Topps 266 WOODY HELD 80 (centering?)
9 1959 Topps 187 BUBBA PHILLIPS 88
10 1959 Topps 178 RUBEN AMARO 86
11 1959 Topps 169 TED ABERNATHY 84 (rubber band mark?)
12 1959 Topps 128 BOB HARTMAN 88
13 1959 Topps 114 EARL BATTEY 84

The following seven cards were all PSA 8, subbed slabbed, with minimum grade of 88 requested (5 made it, 2 failed)
14 1959 Topps 5 DICK DONOVAN 88
15 1959 Topps 9 PAUL GIEL 0 - G
16 1959 Topps 43 STEVE BILKO 88
17 1959 Topps 187 BUBBA PHILLIPS 88

18 1959 Topps 203 OZZIE VIRGIL 0 - G
19 1959 Topps 256 JERRY DAVIE 88
20 1959 Topps 266 WOODY HELD 88
