Bench still available, but going on consigment this month, at a higher price than I offered it for here.

Blackie is the one who's "kickin your ass" on the Nolan Ryan. He bought it.

79-80 O-peechee or Topps
I know you can get some low-end cards cheap. Think the market fell-off for his card

Naw, he needs this one:

And this one:

Short story here. The first one, the Staubach card, Rob (Blackie) turned me on to because he knew how bad I wanted that card in high grade. And get me off John's(BigRedOnes's)will. The second, the Montana card, he gave to me. Yes gave to me...because he knew I wanted one and at that time he had three. Okay, so we traded a few cards back and forth, and continue to do so. Are we even, doubt it. Am I ever reminded of it?...daily. Just kidding.

So, I guess my point is, through this forum we have developed a friendship for whatever reason, maybe through military background, maybe through cards maybe just pure friendship. No cards, or lack there of can replace that. Do we agree on everything? Absolutely not. I'm a centering freak..nuff said.

Seems lately participation on the board has dropped off, myself included. I've been doing my own gallery and have gotten away from registry chasing and having a lot of fun in the process. I'm not limited in what cards I can post and best of all no numbers associated with them. Collecting is fun again. I can put a story with the card.

Not for everyone, but to have a friend you can bounce ideas off of is invaluable, whether it's an idea on a card, sighting a scope in, what fly's the trout are attacking, what smoking wood is best for pork shoulder or brisket, or whatever, build some friendships, not adversaries. Easier said than done, I know, but can we try? Maybe get back to the days of our childhood, or at least mine, trading cards, irregardless of the "big" business of sports cards these days. Maybe we can't get away from it, I dunno.

Anyway, just some random thoughts. Now back to the sidelines, or in my case, gallery building.

I couldn't agree more brother Jim! It is so nice to have someone to talk cards and life in general with. I typically call ya too much so tell the wife I apologize and I will send a nice Christmas gift to ya both..lol

The point you made on "chasing" registry numbers hits the nail on the head. I was spending more time and effort trying to complete a set, upgrading low end cards (in which I never should have graded in the first place) and completely lost sight of hobby in general and to me its to have fun. I wasn't born in 1958 or even a twinkle in the eye of my father in 1958. I did and do love the cards but really what meaning did that set have to me other than the chase in the end. Well its a chase that cost quite a bit and you never quite get the money you put into it. I have shifted focus to buying cards of players I enjoyed watching or hearing about like Mantle, Jordan and Payton. Heck lately ive had more fun just going through the fewer cards I have on hand than 400 SGC graded cards of the same set with hundreds of players I never even see play before or heard of till I started working on the set. Guess the collecting focus changes as you get older and in my case more wise with the money (that's my opinion).

Here is my latest pickup.......no its not centered well.......I don't care at all

That's ok. Bradshaw is a bit off-centered himself in real life.
