10-day January special that got slowed down a couple of days by the weather. Reasonable results as six cards did upgrade my set. I think they missed on the Wally Moon, a tough high # that is rarely found centered, but they made up for it on the Lepcio and Pavletich, now graded 92. Both were $5 raw pickups at last month's TriStar Houston show. Kucks as an 88 is a solid looking Yankee. Four of the other cards were crackouts. Two went up, one went down and one stayed the same. The no option Lumenti cards were crap shoots. Had I landed an 84 on either of those, that's a $100-$175 card.

1 1959 Topps 25 DON HOAK 88 (upgrade)
2 1959 Topps 158 WALT DROPO 86
3 1959 Topps 187 BUBBA PHILLIPS 82

Roger that.

Here are some views of the results, all of which upgraded my set.

Hoak was originally a PSA 7.5, so that crackout and crossover worked out well.

Scored this rare variation Lumenti for a common price. Dealers with binders sometimes don't know their cards.

Lepcio was one of the $5 pickups at Tri-Star last month.

Delsing was originally a GAI 7.5 that I cracked out.

Pavletich was another of the $5 raw pickups.

Moon I think they were a bit too critical on. Rarely found this well centered, which should have overridden the tiny print flaw above Wally's unibrow. Corners are sharp. This was an $8 raw find.

Here are the others which didn't make the grade or bump up enough to make it into my #1 set. These will be in my duplicate 1959 Registry set, listed for sale, currently ranked about #9 or so.

Walt was a $3 raw pickup from Uncle Dick DeCoursey awhile back. Poor guy looks like they just told him he's being sent down to Louisville. Dude was 6'5" and 220 according to his bio. That's a big {DING} on the Dan Patrick radio show.

Kucks was a $2 steal at the Tri-Star show. Dealer wanted $5, I balked, he asked how much did I want to pay? I said $2 and he took it. Art of negotiation?

Here's the other Lumenti variation, o/c, that I got off ebay a few weeks ago for around ten bucks.

The final card from the sub was both disappointing and perplexing. Originally an 86, and graded as such not that long ago, I thought it had a shot at an 88. Boy, was I wrong!!

Nice looking cards indeed BBO.

I got wore down from playing the TPGing game so I haven't subbed any cards in quite some time.

Maybe i'll work up a small batch and join back in the game just for sh*** and grins.
