If there are border chips, I doubt you'll see a 96, imho.

I can show you 25 cards from my 76 set with the 96 that have border chips. If SGC doesn't think its mint then I guess I will just keep it in PSA . It wouldn't bother me in the least to have it back because I don't see me finishing this set by the deadline for the prize. I just don't have enough quality raw left and certain cards like the Bonds RB, Lolich RB, Stennett RB,Umbarger,Fuentas,Lindblad,Zisk and Wockenfuss that I want in 92 or 96 are not available to me and thats just the first 15 cards of the set?

About a year ago an Sgc dealer was selling a bunch of Sgc 96 1976 Topps that
I thought had lots of border chips and even average centering. So IMHO to say
the card won't cross if it has border chips is not correct. Even though the scan
doesn't tell the whole story I think that scan is better than some of the 96's I've
seen. And I agree with John that border chips should not prevent the card from
being a 96 (unless there are other problems).

Old, dense-headed hammers are cool. Best nail pounders.

Happy Birthday John!

Brett is a brutal card - I know the one you submitted must have been nice...just says how hard the card really is.

I bought it raw from a scan. It is smack dab centered so I took a chance and it sort of paid off but not quite as much as I would have liked. It is a very tough card and I have never seen a mint copy... They have to be out there so hopefully someone will crack a case and score a dozen or so.

When I get the cards tomorrow I will scan them and show off the latest. I am still waiting for the 98 or a 100% 96 submission. Someday I will score the elusive 98 , but it will be Biff Pocaroba and not Tom Seaver

John,

I was checking out your set on the registry. It was great to look at the scans.
I think the 76 set is one of my favorites. It was the one set (along with 75,77,78)
that I collected pack by pack with my brother. Your set brings back good
memories. I went to look at card #283 Merv Rettenmund. Who is he? I only
remember he was one of my hardest cards to get from that year. Him and
Mike Hargrove were tough (#485). When I looked at your scan I thought no
wonder I could not find that card!
