Okay, I've just discovered that SGC has method of grading cards from Canadian submitters, and I think I'll give them a shot. I do have a few questions I hope someone can help me out with:

1) Do I use the standard on-line form and just hack in the Canadian data, add in the $15 flat rate shipping, etc. or is there another form I'm missing?

2) I have a large, original owner collections of OPC Hockey and Baseball from the years 1978-1981 or so, and while the Big Wayne's are safely tucked away, along with the other OPC Hockey rookies, I'd like an idea on what OPC baseball would be worth grading.

These are extremely nice cards, and I have multiples to choose from, but I have not priced BB cards in a very long time. Plus, EBay has very limited data on graded OPC baseball.

Old reliables like Nolan Ryan 78-79 seems to be a safe bet, along with George Brett and the Eddie Murray rookie. I haven't seen an ending price on Rickey Henderson 80 and 81 OPC, but the Topps ones are insane.

How about the 78-79 stars like Carter, Winfield, Yount, Rose, Jackson, Seaver, Bench, etc.? Any potential action in this tier? Star Leaders cards, team cards?

Thanks in advance.

Joe_collector,

I'd say anything valued at $15 or higher with near-perfect centering and four sharp corners is worth submitting (see lists below). If you "pull" an SGC 98 or 100, that's going to be a pretty large premium. You might also want to consider submitting Gem Mint commons.

Interestingly, O-Pee-Chee produced fewer players each year than Topps did in baseball, but they produced MORE in hockey. To that extent, some players like the Molitor/Trammell rookie in '78 and Rickey Henderson in '80 are missing from the OPC sets. On the flip side, Mark Messier appears in the '80-81 OPC hockey set but not in Topps.

Here's a list of the players that I'd submit in each sport:

1978 Baseball: 6, 29, 50, 78, 100, 105, 110, 120, 137, 154, 170, 180, 215, 225, 240, 241, 242.

1978-79 Hockey: 1, 10, 50, 115, 143, 168, 300, 319, 353

1979 Baseball: 8, 41, 51, 52, 101, 167, 323, 338, 343

1979-80 Hockey: 1, 18, 81, 82, 146, 150, 163, 175, 185, 191, 200, 206, 230, 261, 386

1980 Baseball: 55, 88, 141, 205, 211, 235, 260, 282, 303, 314

1980-81 Hockey: 2, 3, 87, 117, 120, 140, 161, 182, 195, 250, 289

1981 Baseball: 39, 113, 136, 240, 254, 261, 300, 315, 347 (Keep in mind that cards printed on gray card stock -- gray backs -- are worth considerably more from this year)

1981-82 Hockey: 1, 63, 106, 107, 108, 111, 117, 118, 120, 125, 148, 161, 269

i believe that o pee chee was on strike in 81? that makes the hockey and baseball from that year tough to get.

Thanks for all the help MW1, it's been a real aid on the baseball side. My first sub will likely be Ryan-centric, as these seem to be the safest bet, and will give me a better opportunity to gauge my grading vs. SGC. Then I'll use your other recommendations on future ones, using all the info to really tune the subs.

Also, anyone on here trying to complete OPC Baseball sets from these years, I have tons of commons, so PM me if you need anything. It may take me a bit, but I'll get back to you...

I also found out that I can use the $5 Modern tier to get my Marvel Masterpiece chase cards graded for my own personal collection. They may not be worth much, but I really like the set.

And I'd also like to thank the boys at SGC for making it relatively easy on the Canadians to submit; it's a real departure from the likes of PSA...

I'd be interested in purchasing 1977 to 1979 Rod Carew OPC SGC graded cards from your submission. The higher the grade the better.

I'll see what I can do, but that OPC "rough cut" was not kind to the Carews of 78-79... Even compared to the notorious OPC hockey, many of these BB cards (especially 79) set a new record for poor printing.

Talk about picking the wheat from the chaff.

estang,
i hate to be the bearer of bad news but i believe the 79 o pee chee carew has him as an angel. i hope that doesn't bother you but if your a collector of carew as a twin this might be a problem.but if you just collect carew then that would be a nice pick up kind of on the odd side.
