This is disapointing i think they should have waited and got more sets listed and all the bugs out before starting it up.

Hey remo --

Besides the list of available sets, what other problems have you noticed?

A desire for more sets to be listed is a positive sign. It's a great start and I hope SGC moves swiftly to add the suggested sets ASAP.

I'm sure more sets will come up over the next few weeks. It's definitely
a good thing to see the registry get off the ground. I'm sure it took
a lot of time to review the intial offering of sets.

I agree that it's a glaring omission to see no standard-issue 60s sets available yet. But looking at this from a business perspective for a minute. . .

* 1970s issues are SGCs largest potential market for new submissions/customers. The people most likely to be working on 70s issues are entering their mid-30s and getting to a point where they have the appropriate resources.
* The folks from CA have a tremendous head start in terms of the number of 60s (and 50s) submissions. I don't at all think SGC should concede this, but in terms of priorities and what the registry is designed to accomplish from a business perspective it makes a bit more sense. By focusing on pre-war and 70s issues, they address where they are strongest (pre-war) and the largest amount of potential (70s).

Now. . .I was thinking about the SGC registry and my recent purchases of 1979T SGC96s. I came to the conclusion that the only reason I've been able to pick them up so cheap is because I was the only one who wanted them. I think THAT is what SGC needs to change most. If we, the select few, are the only ones interested and participating in the SGC registry, then SGC's registry is going to die - and sooner rather than later. I think SGC absolutely MUST promote this thing like crazy and use it to drive new and additional submissions. The Sun-Times show in a couple weeks is the first major show after the registry coming online. If at the show I don't see a substantial marketing push - large banners, registry submission specials, lots of flyers, etc - then I'll be very concerned about SGC's commitment to the registry.

It will be a brave new world. . .

Mike

Well ... let's see ...

Included in the list of baseball sets available for registry are 4 sets from the late-1800's and 11 sets from the years spanning 1909-1919. I'm not sure who collects those years, but if they warrant representation in the "list o sets" ... surely at least ONE regular issue Topps set from the 1960's deserves to be on the list.

I have to believe it was an oversight ... SNAFU ... FUBAR ... normal occurrence for a new system roll-out ... whatever.

And I have confidence that it will be corrected.

Hi remo --

I noticed that, during registration, the first time I typed in my password, all letters and digits were echoed back to the screen. A cardinal sin in software development circles. The second converted all entered characters to astericks.

Also, the confirmation screen that redisplayed all entered information (name, email addr, etc.) echoed all alpha characters and digits of the first password entry.

Other than that, I thought it was fairly smooth for a first day roll-out.

I also didn't care for the fact that one must provide street address and phone number to participate. Personally, I'd rather have kept this private as I really don't like junk mail.

Well, I'm just pleased to have it right now. It's too bad that I can only enter one card at a time. I put a few cards to get started. I like the look, very clean, uncluttered, not drab. Set selections were a tough call, but the SGC folks must be relieved to have it up. Now, push forward and add more sets!
