Ok just started back buying unopened wax boxes both sports and non sports.I have no plan on opening any of the boxes just something for my daughter to have way down the road. I bought BBC Kids pack price guide but the info on pack resealing was limited. What are some of the things to check for??????

Old, dense-headed hammers are cool. Best nail pounders.

There was a thread on the CU board on this subject a few months ago, but I wasn't able to find it. As I remember...

The most obvious sign is discoloration on the back side...if the iron was set too hot. I thought this was really funny, but you actually do see it from time to time. Also, a less severe form of the disease is an "assymetric" pack -- very crisp and sharp back of the pack, less so on the front...or funny looking wax on the back -vs- the front --- all signs of an iron at work.

Probably your best bet is to stick with reputable dealers -- the BBC kid in one, Dave and Adam's card world is another. Also, GAI graded packs have really gotten popular -- is seems that most older wax (70's and before) is ending up in these holders and people have gotten very leery of un-slabbed wax packs from this era.

Good luck!

Srs1a makes some excellent points, but there are other things to look for also which are more subtle and virtually imperceptible.

Again, your best bet is to buy from one of the reputable dealers. Let their guarantee be your protection.

Cellos and racks can be resealed, but it is much more obvious. racks more obvious than cellos. You don't see it too often, but when done, it's so obvious to make you laugh.
The real reason you don't see cellos and racks resealed is because of the sequence. Since you can see what the top and bottom carda are, and if you know the sequence for that particular year, you can determine what's in the middle of the pack. No need to open and reseal.

so then all cellos and racks are searchable or only certain years are in sequence? Is there any website or any place that really has indepth info on checking wax ? Also I noticed most wax boxes from the 80's really nosedived in price from what they used to be Is this a good time to pick them up and hold for long term. I'm buying topps 1982,1983,1985 boxes as well as 1984 Donruss and 1990 leaf boxes as well as 1984,85,86 topps football and 1989 upper deck lo wax I also bought 1987,88,89 fleer basketball Are these good choices for long term investment?
