I thought Carter's ten seasons with a 100 RBIs would mean more, but as someone pointed out,his .306 OBP is much lower than any other hitter elected. I guess he falls just short.Rice and Blyleven deserve to get in,IMO

IMHO it is Carter's .259 lifetime average that correctly keeps him from getting any serious HOF consideration.

I would need to see Mcgwire's stats, but I certainly would not put him in based on his one 70+ homerun season if he otherwise falls short.

i guess i am saying that if you take 72 homeruns he falls short of 500(the only reason i think he will get in first ballot)and his liftime avg is not better than joe carters. i could be wrong. he played a decent first base but i doubt he won any gold gloves. he also left the game early probably because he didn't want to deal with the steroid question every 10 minutes. he will get in, but i doubt he waits more than a year!

Big MAC is in when the proper time has passed

583 lifetime homeruns erases a .263 batting average (.394 OBP)

12 Time All-Star
Currently 6th All-Time in homeruns
1400+ RBI isn't too shabby
11 times over 30 HR's in a season
6 times over 40 HR's in a season (42, 49, 52, 58, 65, 70)

Yeah...............I'd say he's in no?

NJD makes a good case for Big Mac. OBP is important to keep in mind-- nearly .400. There was a long period time when was getting pitched around like Bonds is now. He's a HOFer -- and first ballot.

The problem with the HOF is the baseball writers. When it comes to cooperstown, they have become a sanctimonious bunch, preachy and self important.

There shouldn't be a de facto quota system for the HOF. Here's my votes:

Rice
Parker
Dawson
Morris
Blyleven
Sutter
Gossage
John
Trammell
Sandberg

Goose Gossage, Bert Blyleven and Alan Trammel deserve to be in the HOF.
