Player Registry a Better Way to Go??

How about a Player Registry for graded cards. Most sets contain soooo many cards the cost is staggering. Most vintage players would have 20 or fewer cards to get graded. I am more inclined to have a collection of SGC graded Jackie Robinson cards than to have a 500-600 set graded.
Opinions?

I absolutely agree. I collect vintage cards from the 50's and have no intentions of set building - the task would require a fortune and the availability of cards would make it impossible. How about subsets for each vintage set - say 1969 and older - that are comprised of HOF's and Allstars from each of the respective years - maybe throw in Gold Glove winners as well. What other subset themes could be used by SGC for vintage - 20 game winners possibly?
I think keeping the regular sets needs to happen to stay true to the intended purpose/plan for those people who are attempting the impossible and offer the abridged group for star card collectors. Again, I'm talking about vintage only, cards from the 70's and later make a lot of sense to have the full-blown registry.
The more I type the more I like the idea - for those who collect star cards, it will make our collections seem more significant (in terms of completion) on the registry rather than languishing around the 1 - 10% completion status.
Could this be the differentiating feature of SGC's registry?
To the board in general - maybe SGC could offer small incentives for good suggestions that actually make into the registry. Maybe a free grade or an upgrade in service level.
What do you think?

A viable option and rather challenging in it's own right. I have a few player collections and even a topps AS-Rookie trophy card collection. Subsets are always fun. I'm sure SGC will add these per suggestion if they don't offer them already.

Player sets are great...no doubt about it. Could this be a differentiating feature of SGC's registry -- sorry, lots of player sets are already up on the "other one". If you haven't taken a look, some of the stuff there is incredible -- check out the Mantle sets! The top one has gem mint copies of his 52 and 53 Topps cards! No matter what you think of the holder (or company behind them), these are sweet cards.
If I only had a few extra $100k around, I think I could top the board. I think I'll check under my bed this evening.

Right on Tony,
I want to see the '35 Chicles, too! BTW, there is a complete 1894 Mayo Cut Plug set up with pictures...talk about vintage!
And, don't sell yourself short -- check out aconte's '54 Redmans!

I'm not familiar with the other set registry - even if it already exists, I still think it should be on "to-do" list for SGC.
Gem Mint Mantle's are always nice to look at.
By the way, thanks for the email and scan.
Does anyone know if Stan the Man Sportscards dropped SGC graded cards? I haven't seen anything from him on Ebay in ages.

Sadly, it is just the way things are. I believe you are correct.
Here's a Red Man update...
No SGC's in Chicago.
Shoebox had a slew of beauties...some freshly graded.
Paul Starx and the Skerbe's had decent runs as well.
If you want to part with a kidney, Levi (707 Sportscards) had a large group from 53-55 all in mid grade to investment grade. I won't buy from him, but if it's hard to find he may have it.
