If SGC were to change one thing (but only one thing) and you got to choose what it was, what would it be?

Adding the half points to the grading scale for grades Good, VG, VGEX, and EXMT. This was not a factor until recently when I have started to sell all lower graded cards.

I'd do whatever it takes to capitalize on the current unrest among the "PSA faithful" and apparent weakness among PSA's executive management to encourage converts to the SGC ranks.

1. Cut-rate crossover specials for large collections ... converted en masse,
2. A re-run of the 2003 crossover specials (wasn't it $5 per card?),
3. Aggressive recruiting of large volume dealers (who knows, maybe this is already happening ...),
4. Promotional campaigns comparing/contrasting the two companies' products (this would be the "in your face approach" ...),
5. whatever it takes.

The goal would be to increase market share (a measure of current grading activity) and increase the quantity of desireable, quality cards in SGC slabs.

If cards and dealers are enticed in an "SGC direction" ... collectors will follow.

Of course, it's easy for Monday morning quaterbacks to make these kinds of decisions and bold predictions.

I have a list of more than one, but given a single choice, I'd go with:

1. Increase resources on a marketing/advertising campaigns. I think this will help increase market share and have a trickle down effect to me as a collector, to obtain more SGC cards to meet my collecting needs.

I can't resist, here are the other changes I'd like to see made:

1. Sub-grading on labels
2. Re-design of label to include better quality insert, ink and change colors with prominent silver for all grades.
3. Special grading incentives for set registry members
4. UV protection on holders, if not already
5. Enhancements to the How I Collect Set Registry and Registry overall
6. Ability to participate in structured survey on SGC (can be part of marketing campaign plans).

My change would be to the holder and label.

I'd like a standard-size holder. The GAI and PSA holders are the same height and width and fit nicely into boxes, and ultra pro graded card sheets as well, but the SGC holder is too large. As someone who collects mixed graded sets, having all holders the same size would be nice.

Interesting question. I must start by saying I would hate any change to the
holder. Similar to a lot of the comments of the Psa guys certain changes
should not happen because they are too late. If you change the holder size
or label (again) what about the cards I already have in my set. Who is
going to pay to make everything the same? This would tick me off if it
would cost me money.

I also like the grading scale as it is. I don't mind adding a few more half
grades like BOTN suggests. I also think that Sgc needs to capitalize
on their use of the half grades. They need to promote it more and better
than they do now! The Psa heads know that half grades are a better system.
Especially with 8's and 8.5's! But for them it is too late. For Sgc it is
a chance to compete and market their better system (which Gai went with).

However, to answer this question on what I would change. Tough. Most of
the things I come up with are not really change but a continued improvement
of the product and industry growth. I would continue to go after customers
especially the show circuit of dealers (a lot of the Psa gang). The more
product that these dealers offer graded by Sgc will help and go a long way
to gain momentum of collectors buying Sgc. I would increase some marketing
of Sgc. Example - on Mastronet's preview of product to the next auction
there are NO Sgc cards on the preview page. This is unacceptable from
an Sgc standpoint. Granted they don't submit cards for sale. But Gai has
been able to worm their cards in on the front page to this auction. Sgc
needs to be on the horn pushing for more show (I do realize this auction
has mostly unopened material too).

OK. This has gotten long. And none of these really changes. So my
change would be the WEBSITE. Improve the population report downloads.
Add more features to the set registry site. I'd like to see a new sets added
function. I'd also like to see a top sets or 100% complete sets section
from the Sgc registry. If you could add a comment line for each card
to a set without a lot of trouble that would be nice.

So my answer is website changes.

I would add a certification number verification feature -- IMHO, this is sorely needed.

srs1a,

Good point. I would stick that in my website changes. That is good.
Also, with the pop reports, the change should include a total for each
grade.

did i mention changing the label to silver i would leave the holder the same size. i like the cert look up idea,i like the registry improvement, i like everything that d-embrace says. did i mention the label?i hate the idea of sub grades on the flip because that causes confusion. beckett does this and you get the "phantom surface grade" everytime?did i mention changing the labels to silver?

Funny posts! I started writing the label change would not bother me but
then I hit the backspace button. I'm too anal to handle a mix like that
with my cards. Heck even now all my cards must have the split grade.

Who knows? Maybe once I'm done the red man's (which could be never).

Maybe some Sgc 96 Phils from 76 and 78 could change my mind....

Population Report (I know, not as pressing as other issues, but this current thing is quite irritating): automatic tallying of how many cards for a particular set have been graded. For example, it's easy enough to find out how many 1964 Stand-Up Yaz's (or any player) have been graded. But you have to manually tally to get the total number of 1964 Stand-Ups that have been graded. Strange they ommitted this from the start.

Did Sgc add a new sets feature of some kind? I noticed something like
this on the set registry that looked different.
