The card looks in perfect condition. Anyone give me an idea of its value? Is this type of card worth submitting for grading?
Thanks.

Hi # card from a tough series in condition. If you think that it will pull at least a PSA 8, definitely worth it.

What is SGC's policy on grading autographed cards? I didn't think they graded auto'ed cards because they didn't want to be put in a position of authenticating an autograph ...

Maybe, Skeffington et al will jump in here. And I don't want give wrong information -- but I think they would grade and slab the card, but express no opinion on the autograph. Myself, I have a SGC slabbed autograph card. The grade reflects the condition on the card only as I understand it. It is interesting to note that the INK (the autograph) is not treated as a flaw as though the card was scribbled on.

No, PSA will slab it. It will be graded and have the auto DNA/PSAed. Does SGC even slab/authenticate signed cards?

Old, dense-headed hammers are cool. Best nail pounders.

Hammer, et al.
I'm not sure about the complete answer -- but I know SGC does slab "certified" autograph cards (eg. autographed inserts). I've got more than a few Donruss Significant Sigs, Fleer GOTG, etc in SGC slabs -- in my spare time, I'm working on a HOF signature set...and I'm absolutely sure that I'll never finish this one!

I posted a question about autographs in the Q&A section. We'll see if it gets a response this time.

Gunsmoke,
One of the previous posts is correct, SGC will only grade autographed cards that were issued by the cards manufacturer i.e inserts, etc. I believe all of the grading services have the same policy, but I am not positive. I hope this information is helpful. I also would like to wish a Happy and Healthy New Year to all of the message board members.
Best regards, Sean-SGC

Hi Gunsmoke --
The 1965 Topps Boog Powell was a short printed card, and therefore, would command a marginally higher value. Although, to a set collector, the card would probably be unacceptible as it has been "defaced" with an autograph. There are set collectors out there who specialize in sets of autoed cards, but those guys are few and far between.
To an autograph collector, the card may have some value, but autograph collecting is a whole different ballgame. You have to worry about authenticity of the autograph, condition of the auto, relative scarcity of a Powell auto, etc.
The SGC online price guide lists the Boog Powell card at $160 in mint condition ... that's as a slabbed mint card. On the other hand, in an Ebay auction that concludes in two days (Item # 1984984525), a '65 Boog Powell, which appears to be nicely centered and in (at least) near mint condition, has only two bids and the high bid is $1.60.
You could always put it up for auction on Ebay and let the market decide how much it's worth ...
Hope this helps.

It's funny to think that an autograph is considered defacing, but I can understand how it would.
Thanks alot for the info, it was very helpful.
