Just got back my latest submission. Invoice #1185842. These were all modern cards (2001, 2002 Topps Reserve Football and some 2002 Ulta Football singles). I'll be listing them into my Set Registry this weekend. I submitted under the Set Registry special, with the $2 pre-screen. In my opinion this was a great value. SGC slabbed only the cards that met my minimum grade (SGC 96) and charged me $2 for the ones that didn't.
The funny part is that the cards that weren't slabbed were returned in their Cardsavers with the grade written in marker and than crossed off. I was able to see the crossed out grade on most of the cards. Some were 92's, some were 88's but the ironic part was that some were initially graded 96's or 98's, but were than downgraded upon further inspection. This tells me that the pre-screen is more than just a casual inspection of the cards, but a more detailed grading. This deal just can't be beat. I'm getting a bigger order together to send out.
SGC gets derided for not being original in it's marketing. This is a very original and great service. Get the word out guys and watch the submissions role in.

FabFrank,

I had a similar experience with the $3 x-over -- one card didn't make my minimum grade and they put it in a team bag and wrote the grade that they would have given it and the reasons. Although, I wished that it would have crossed, I was very happy that they went the extra mile to tell me why it didnt. Really outstanding service IMHO.

I feel this is one service they should keep and offer it only to Set Registry members. That would be one way to increase their Registry's exposure and reward it's loyal Registry participants. My only criticism was the turn around time. Turn around was the full 4 weeks, but I can live with it.

Frank,

That is a GREAT deal. I have really been evaluating the other company and am seriously considering going with SGC in light of the recent scandals and inconsistent grades. What bothers me most is they will not give us any info on the matter.

I really feel that SGC needs to spend mega bucks advertising and really stand out at the National because I think a big chunk of the market is there for the taking due to recent events.

VC- Don't get me wrong. I like and use the other company for grading too. I'm working on my SP Authentic football sets on their Registry and have decided to do the Topps and Bowman Reserve Sets on SGC's Registry. SGC's growth will come from consistency, aggressive pricing, and some innovative marketing. They're answering the first 2 points, they just need to improve on the third. With this pricing though, more of more submissions will be heading to SGC.

I just received the results on a small vintage raw card submission.

1950 Bowman Pafko - SGC 84. I'm quite happy on this card - from the tough and very expensive 1st series. Dead centered and bright! NM all the way.

1968 Topps Santo AS - SGC 96 - Yeah Baby - nothing better than a $5.50 raw card pulling a 96!

1968 Topps Hodges - SGC 96 - Yeah Baby x 2.

1968 Topps Lolich - SGC 84- I was optimistically hoping for an 88 but I knew I didn't have a shot. Was banking on an 86 - but I won't complain. The card is bright with 50/50 centering.

I recently got back a couple of cross-over submisssions for my 1971 baseball set (most have been posted on the registry). Here are the results:

5 PSA 9s crossed to SGC 96
1 PSA 8 crossed to SGC 96
2 PSA 8s crossed to SGC 92
13 PSA 8s crossed to SGC 88
6 PSA 8s crossed to SGC 86
1 PSA 8 crossed to SGC 84 (had minor surface wrinkle on front of card that I missed)

Overall I am very satisfied. I knew going in that some of the PSA 8s were on the margin for getting an 88. I thought the PSA 8 that crossed to SGC 96 would get a mint grade because my screening with a magnifier showed four mint corners - a clear undergrade by PSA.

nice! Do I dare say there is some continuity in the current grading process at the "better" grading companies?

Scott,

thanks for the compliment on my set. Your 1968 baseball set is also quite impressive.
