I'm heavily into 1950's Bowman baseball cards and I have noticed a large upswing in auction prices for anything in graded 8 slabs and higher on Ebay. My thoughts are that the 1950's sets - excluding the '53 set (I'm throwing this one out because well-centered, high-end examples already command a large premium) - are the most sought out vintage sets going right now.

Bidding on anything in a PSA 8 holder gets down-right nasty over the last 60 seconds of the Ebay auction close. Commons in PSA 8's (seeing an SGC 88 or higher has a lower probably of occuring than watching Sasquatch grabbing a snack from your backyard bird feeder) can go for $125+ without much effort.

I follow the 1950's Bowman baseball sets along with 1968 Topps - are there any other issues that people are seeing exploding prices on the online auction sites.

Red man cards are doing well in high grade.

I track some of the 50's football. This would include the 51 and 55 bowman
sets. I've noticed these cards used to sell for less than SMR. Now the
prices have gone up. I believe "crashtestalex" had a bunch of 55 bowman's
on ebay a couple of weeks ago. They did well. I was interested in the
Sgc 92 Joe Perry he had. It blew away all the eights I've seen up for
auction in the last couple years. The Psa 8 in the Superior auction
is a good example of the typical poor Psa eight I've seen. The centering
is horrible, corners look weak, and the color is nothing to scream about.
He threw me a buy price of $100 at the Ft. Wash show and I passed
since I wasn't sure if that was good or not. I snoozed and lost!

Edit - The Psa 8 I'm refering to in the Superior Auction is actually a
1951 bowman. Sorry about that. Apples and oranges....

The prices for 1977 material (SGC graded at least) seem to be finding an equilibrium. I'm seeing fewer go for a song. But they have not taken off yet. This suits me just fine as a collector, though it would be nice to see dealers cash in SGC 92 and SGC 96 money cards so they keep submitting those commons too. Lee (CrashTestAlex) got a SGC 92 '77 Ryan. I tried to peel it away for $50 offline, but he put it on eBay instead. Went for about $60. I was glad to see it. In a 18 month time frame, similar cards will go for a good bit more.

I'll probably slap this in the '77 thread.

Early to mid 80's hi grade football (PSA 9 or SGC 96) are bringing some aggressive prices. Especially low pop, Set Registry cards. 70's SGC 88's baseball and football are ridiculous bargains. SGC 92's are stabilizing in price and should start seeing some upward price improvement.
