Scott,
I have built my set through a combination of raw cards bought at numerous card shows and graded cards bought at shows and mostly on ebay. When my set was in its early stages a few years ago I bought some wax packs and rack packs (although about 50% of those cards are usually way off center) that yielded some very nice cards. I actually have all the cards in the set graded (including five of the seven checklist variations - not shown on the registry). The ones I am "missing" on the SGC registry are those that I have in mostly PSA 8 holders (with a few 7s) that I do not believe would cross over to SGC 88 (I have sent in many PSA and a few Beckett 1971 cards for crossover). A 10 power magnifier is a must for pre-screening cards for grading or crossover. So, yes it has become increasingly difficult to find the cards I am "missing" in SGC 88 condition. I always attend either the National or Sportsfest. I think my best buy was my purchase of the Pete Rose card in PSA 8 (since crossed over to SGC 88) for $90 at the 1998 Labor Day show in San Francisco. It was book value at the time, but a steal compared to today's prices of $400-$600 for the card in graded NM-MT condition.
