E-mail Old Oriole in the 79 registry. A few months ago he posted several SGC 96's. They may be extra or he may be selling of his 79 set. Also, I would e-mail marybayer on eBay. She has listed several 78 and 79 SGC 96's over the last couple of months.

And if you are really serious, I would e-mail dsvice, vintagerookies, rockbottomsports, consignmints, majoryankeefan, zubes1156, pank21 and chiroman to tell them your story.
I do not know if that will work, you recently passed up 96 versions of Fisk and Lonnie Smith for $9.99. It costs a lot of money to break wax/vending/rack etc. to find mint cards. If someone is not going to get at least $8 per common, then they are probably not going to go out of there way for you. I would consider the Smith and Fisk better than a common and $10 to be a good buy. Not a great buy, but decent none the less.

Going the route of emaling Ebay power sellers won't work. I've attempted this a few times myself with no luck. If they do respond, they want an incredible premium.
The ones that don't want to deal with direct sales (instead of Ebay) were at times, pretty ridiculous with the nature of their response. Dhcards comes to mind as an example.
Good luck with the direct approach for completing your set(s).
