I just bought a card collection from a friend and, as part of the deal, I'm to purchase a pair of vendor's boxes of '85 topps which we will go through over some beer.

I'm to send in any gradable finds and we split the take.

But it appears that vendor's boxes -- at 500 cards -- are a much better deal than buying a wax pack box or cello packs. Is that because people cull the vendor's boxes and pass them off as "factory sealed"? Has the collective wisdom of buyers pulled the "per card" price down because of that?

Anyone have advice on the best route to get the best shot at the best cards from that year?
