Hi Leon, sorry I'm so late getting back to you. I always crack and submit for several reasons, the main ones being I don't want to give the graders in pre-conceived ideas or introduce reason for prejudice. Valid or no, it's the way I feel. To give you an example, a few months back I sent in a 1979 card graded 8.5 in some off-brand grading company with instructions to SGC to cross with the 8.5 minimum intact. The card came back would not meet grade. So I cracked the card out and resubmitted it raw, a couple months ago. The card came back an SGC 96, a half a grade equivalent higher. Nuff said on that subject. More importantly though I like to get the card in hand out of the case and inspect the card myself. I have found several cards out of PSA holders that would never grade the equivalent in SGC. So why waste my money sending them in if I know they're going to grade lower?

I just got the results of my first 62 SGC submission this morning. The results was a mixed bag as usual, but overall positive...I feel. This might help you in your decision making.

Of the PSA 6's I cracked and submitted, three graded higher, one 6 went to a SGC 86, and two went lower. I came real close to not sending these two in, as I was pretty confident they would come back lower, but on the other hand I wanted to attempt to get a feel for SGC grading on the 62's. So in they went. Wish now I had went with my "gut."

Of the Psa 7's cracked and submitted, two reamined the equivalent same grade, six graded higher, all but one at least a grade higher, the highest increase was on 7 went to an SGC 92....sweet. One dropped a grade, that one also not much of a surprise.

Of the PSA 8's cracked and submitted, three remained the same equivalent, two went higher, the best being one a full grade higher.

The five raw cards I submitted fom my raw collection all graded as I thought they would, 84 and 88's.

Maybe this will give you an indication as to what you might be looking at, either way it's a crap shoot at best, but maybe it helps. I think it gave me a better idea of how SGC grades the 62's, which to me seems a whole lot more consistent than PSA.

As for as cracking a PSA case, it's as easy as...well cracking a PSA case. Seriously, though, in my opinion PSA cases are by far the easiest to crack. There is absolutely no reason any tool, and I use this term loosly as most PSA cases could probably be cracked with a dime, should ever get near the card. The key is patience. I've probably cracked somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 cases, by far mostly PSA's and have yet to even come close to damaging a card, knock on wood. Now that I've said that, watch the very next one. And, oh by the way, I'm about the most all thumbs person you'll ever be associated with.

So, all that being said, hope it helps in your decision making. One guy did put together a You-Tube video on the "other" forum...CU, as to how to crack a BGS holder. Now they're a little different breed, the holder I mean...well for that matter, the members too. But keep in mind should you decide to view it, it is a PSA forum so naturally it's way over the top. Actually it is pretty decent....for those folks anyway. If you decide to crack and are not real comfortable with it, feel free to shoot me a pm and I'll be honored to help any way I can.
